Shasta Lewis Obituary

Shasta Ariél Lewis 1982 - 2008 Shasta Ariél Lewis was born in Bakersfield, California on April 10, 1982, and passed away suddenly on October 16, 2008. She is survived by her son, Jett Oliver Preston Lewis; her loving parents, Don and Arla Lewis; her brother, Zack Forster, wife, Christine and daughter, Kyleigh; her brother, Colby Lewis, his wife, Jenny and their son, Cade. She is also survived by her grandmothers, Arlene Estes and Vivian Lewis. The greatest love in Shasta's life was her six month-old son, Jett. Shasta was a loving and devoted mother who was thankful for every moment she and Jett spent together. Shasta was an accomplished student, receiving a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Communications from California State University, Fresno, in 2004. She excelled in softball, beginning her career at the age of four, and retiring her senior year as the starting first baseman for the Fresno State Bulldog's Women's Softball Team, where she set multiple records. Shasta was fun-loving and enthusiastic about all things she did. Her passions included cosmetics, trend-setting, and fashion. She loved to be the center of attention to make people laugh. She was a joy to be around, and was the light in a dark room. There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life at a graveside service at Greenlawn Memorial Park, in Bakersfield, CA on Thursday, October 23rd, at 10:00 a.m. Reception following at the home of Don and Arla Lewis. Please share your wonderful memories of her in the guestbooks section at bakersfield.com/obits. Shasta will forever be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend.

I met Shasta in high school in my child development class, that is where we became friends. She was such a bright happy person and she always made me laugh! I as thinking back to the time where we had to be married in class and she was my partner, we had to share a baby doll that cried all the time for a week and she was totally into the roll! It was so funny! You are truly loved and will be missed! xoxo

To the Lewis Family:

My heart goes out to you and the extended family and friends who have mourned Shasta's passing. I first met your daughter at a Cal State Bakersfield Softball Clinic. She was as electrical then as she was until her leaving so soon. I then had an opportunity to coach Shasta with my travel ball team. She always made me laugh. She always came through when we needed her, and she always made life seem so possible. It saddens me to think that she is no longer with us. My prayers are with you and may Shasta forever rest in peace.

Sincerely,

Latoya Williams (Coach T)

I was on line researching a long time family friend whose last name was "Lewis" and I came across Shasta's obituary....Rodger and I are saddened and shocked to say the very least. We immediately called Rachel (she lives in St. Louis) to let her know. Words offer very little comfort, but we just wanted to let you know that we will keep you and your entire family in our thoughts and prayers.

I was looking online to reconnect with old teammates and I thought of Shasta. The beautiful, lovable, and free-spirited Shasta. I was able to spend 2 years playing softball with her at Fresno State. Teammates always have a special place in heart and I am deeply saddened to find that Shasta had passed away. Moreover, I am shocked to learn that such a life-loving person is gone. I thank her for all of the smiles and hugs.
My prayers and aloha go out to her family. I will never forget you #28.

I met Shasta at Valley High School. I can still remember the first volleyball practice we had together; she was the "new girl", but didn't show it. She was quick-witted, cheerful, completly comfortable, and humorous. She added so much to the team and we had a great season that year. I am grateful we met.

To the Lewis family: I pray for God's comfort and grace to be on and over you all. May you find strength in the shaddow of His wings. My prayers are with you all.

I met Shasta when she came to SMS for eighth grade. At the time, I wasn't fond of her because the boy I had a crush on liked her. In fact, every boy did. I got over it and started to get to know Shasta. We weren't close, but I do remember her bright eyes and wide smile. I can't even imagine the amount of pain and loss your family is feeling. Thankfully, she blessed you with her child to keep her spirit alive. God bless the Lewis family and others directly affected by this tragic loss. My heart and prayers are with you.

Arla & Don,
It seems just yesterday we were all sitting out in the hot sun watching our girls practice or watching one of their softball games. The first time I saw Shasta I thought to myself there is no way this girl can play softball. She was so beautiful, even with her hair pulled up in a ponytail she was gorgeous. She was runway model beautiful, so what was she doing out her on a dirty softball field. Then I saw her play and WOW she could do it all. Pitch, play a great first base, outfield and on top of all that she had a great bat. And she didn't mind getting down and dirty when she had to but she always did it with a smile. Please know your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

I was absolutely shocked to find out about Shasta's passing. We met as little girls. I lived across the street from her Grandma Vivian and we would play when she came to visit. I remember going to her house to go swimming and we had such a great time. My prayers are with her little one; I have a 5 month old daughter and I can't imagine having to leave her behind.

The first time I saw Shasta was at Zacks wedding in 94 or 95. I thought she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. Then the next year she showed up at my school. I was so excited with the hopes of having her as a. girlfriend. I was very fortunate to get to spend time with Shasta over the years. I was there when Shasta picked up her first brand new car and helped her move to Visalia. I feel very fourtinate to have gotten to be there for these special times in her life. Shasta will truly be missed.

To The Lewis Family,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss, and my deepest sympathy goes out to all of you.I have known the Lewis Family for over 20 years and have so many fond memories of Shasta that I dont know just where to start...
When I was younger I recall the bright eyed, blonde hair girl who wanted to paly tag with Zack,Colby and myself,or swimming in there back yard and not wanting to get out!The trips to Qwick and Handy market to get candy, playing in the field behind the house...or her doll house, that was my favorite time with her.
I will miss you Shasta and I will never forget your wonderful smile......

I'm so sad to hear of her passing and your loss. It seems not to long ago we were all kids playing together at your house in that big fort Don built in the back yard or swimming in the pool having sleep overs with no sleeping at all just playing video games down in the basement or playing football and baseball in the field next to your old house. We did alot together. Shasta was always so much fun to be around. When I left Bakersfield many years ago I always thought that we that we would all get together again one day and talk about the good old days and it breaks my heart to know she wont be there in person but her sprit will live on in all of us forever. I will miss you Shasta.

I loved Shasta Lewis for the wonderful person she was, and will always be. Her heart practically overflowed with goodness, gratitude and love for others. You could see it in her eyes. She only wanted to make sure others were happy and smiling...

As I reflect, I remember Shasta as so much more than being a good ball player and a fashionista. She was a solid person with a deep soul; something she only shared with select few people throughout her life.

I am glad to have known Shasta for the deeper person she was.
Her dedication and unrelenting strengths are what I remember most about her. She was tough (obviously she has older brothers) and her persistance was always something I found to be so admirable about her. Aside from that never ending smile, her goofy laugh and all the crazy little facial expressions she displayed.

She was a true individual whom I am glad to have shared a part of my life with for as long as I did.
Yet still, My heart aches over this loss as I am sure it will for days to come...

Never the less, Many Thanks to Arla, Don and the Boys for being so influential to your girl, and consequently, me as well. Your impact was maybe far greater than anyone will ever realize. So please be proud of that. And I hope you all realize how much love she had for the family and her Jett.

It was immeasurable.

Thanks for the good times and Cheers to the future guys.
I hope you find time to smile a little more and more each day. I wish you all the very best in life!

With Love,

Shasta was ALWAYS the most fun to be around. If I wasn't laughing I was smiling. She brought nothing but joy and laughter to all of our lives. Luckily you have the best of her in Jett to watch blossom before your eyes. Heaven needed a stylist.. We love and miss you Shasta.. All of our families thoughts and prayers are with the Lewis family in this hard time.

I was blessed to know Shasta while she was pregnant with Jett and she made an immediate impact on my life. From what I have come to find out, she did on every person who had the honor of coming into contact with her. I am saddened for this world for losing such a bright shining star that burned out far too fast. She will be dearly missed and my heart goes out to her family i this time of mourning. She lived the way she wanted and never apologized for being Shasta, and I loved that about her. We should all be so certain of who we are to live like she did. Our lives are a little less bright without her smile and personality in it. I miss you Shasta, with all my heart.

I met the "one and only Shasta" when we were just kids in jr high at Stiern. During that time and there after we lived about a block away from each other...we became very good friends. I will never forget her endless efforts trying to teach me to play softball...it was hopeless...she made the sport look effortless. Shasta was there for me, as I was for her, during some very important times in our lives....I have never and will never forget the beauty of that girl....she truly was a remarkable person.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all...

To the Lewis Family...
I'm totally in shock. Shasta worked for me her first year at COS. I taught her office skills, she washed COS vans with one of our baseball players. I'd catch them listening to music, just kick'n it. I'll never ever forget her beautiful white smile, eyes, and what a laugh. She could light up a room.
You all are in my prayers... may GOD be at your side for direction in caring for Jett. Hold close to your heart precious memories.

I had the distinct honor of being Shasta's coach and friend. Though my relationship with her had a different impact than I intended, it is one of profund influence. Driven by her memory, I promise to "Coach" my players to love themselves first and foremost and I'll do it with all I've got. I've never forgotten her, since I met her and I'll never forget losing her.

DEAR DON AND ARLA..ZACK AND COLBY..Our memories of Shasta go back to Longfellow elementary..Shasta was one of the frist girls our daughter Nikki met in kindergarten..I can still see those beautiful bright eyes...her long ponytail. and great bangs!!..and a smile that would light up any room.. I believe the first softball team they played on was coached by Arla and my husband Gordon... they had pretty blue NOR shirts and white hats and were called the Royals...that was in 1988..i dont remember all the kids...but Shasta..Nikki Young,(our daughter).....Heather Baker..Gail Mootry...and the boy they all called boyfriend..Andy Taylor were all part of that first team...and as I am looking at that picture...I think Nikki along with Shasta always had the best bangs!!!Shasta was also in my brownie troop...a great group of girls that made wonderful memories for me...I pray that you take comfort in knowing that you will now have a special angel watching over you all.. I know this is out of order...children are not supposed to go first..Having lost my son..and Nikki having a cancer issue I know that all these memories from friends that are shared here will help comfort you in the years to come.. As days turn into weeks and weeks into years.. you can have such pride in knowing how many hearts she touched along her road in life..Shasta's beautiful smile will be remembered always and will continue in all the years ahead..we will always keep your family in our prayers...and heaven has welcomed a beautiful angel..Our hearts and prayers go out to you all.. with loving memories..Gordon and Kathy Young

I first meet Shasta our 8th grade year, Standard Middle School. We very soon later became some of the bestest friends ever, and for many years now!!! There was a year or so we lost contact after high school, through her college years, but when we finally came back together it was like a moment didn’t pass. I can’t imagine my life without her:( this feels like a bad dream. I have TONS of great memories with that girl. From making snowmen at her house when it snowed here in Bakersfield to a more recent memory (which we were just talking about a few weeks back) of us sleeping in her Navigator at the beach. Shasta and I were full of rode trips when we were roommates a couple years back. We had gone to Oakland for a couple Texas Ranger games, Mid State Fair to see REBA and to Las Vegas many times. We were inseparable. Shasta was the sister I never had. Shasta was a great friend to me through all the years. I am so sadden, Jett will not know the Shasta Lewis that I have known for the past 13 years. She was full of life, bright, smart, beautiful, and so much fun!! I explain Shasta as a person you could have just meet one time for two minutes and you would remember her for a life time. With her great personally, her beauty and that laugh how could you forget her? Shasta was like no other. I can truly say I love this girl with all of my heart, and she will truly be missed. R.I.P. I met Shasta Several years ago through mutual friends and we just clicked... It was as if she had been in my life since I was born. We enjoyed many dinners, dancing, movies, shopping, and even quite nights at home just flipping though the tv.I got to know alot about Shasta, who she was and what she felt. She was an amazing, beautiful and intelligent girl. When she worked for Wright Medical I had been going through alot of personal and emotional problems. Shasta always was there with unlifting words, stories and encouragement. She made me stronger and picked me up when I was down and out. Never letting me give up. I loved her, I still love her. I always will love her. I regret not being able to be there for her in her last days on earth. I would do anything to keep her here. Shasta loved her family , she talked about them all the time. And i hope they know that she always loved them. I pray that SHasta is with the angels in Heaven. Lets not forget her smile, her laugh, her humor, or the beautiful women that captured our hearts. I love Mt. Shasta

I met Shasta going to Stiern Middle School. We became the best of friends. We even went to the extremes and got the same matching Nike tennis shoes. HeHe I can still remember Shasta's smile and laugh and all our sleepovers. She was such a great friend and person to have been able to have met. However growing up in different areas of Bakersfield and attending different highschools we lost contact. We ran into each other every once in awhile at the B.C. Football games but it was never enough time to catch up with one another. From the last time I saw her until now I thought about her and missed our friendship. Ever since I opened the newspaper today and saw her face I have been devastated almost shock. I don't know what to think or even if I understand. She was my age, so young, what happened, what about her precious boy and his mother? I just feel like even though the time we had was great it was not enough. I miss her and I wish I would have tried harder to get in contact with her. I am lucky to have been a part of her life and share the memories we have had. My condolences go out to her family who are great people and my heart goes out to her son Jett. I hope Jett grows up knowing how much his mother was loved and cherished by us all. She was a warm hearted woman and I am positive her son will have his mother's same traits. Please call if there is anything needed from the family. I would love to help and be there for the Lewis Family in their time of need.

To the Lewis Family...
I will always remember playing softball and being friends with Shasta growing up. I still remember staying at you house as a kid.... Shasta was a great girl, someone I will never forget. I know it has been years, but I still think of Shasta, wondering how things have been. I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. I was in total shock when my grandmother called me today and told me she had passed. Please know you guys are in my thoughts, as well as my grandparents, June & Joe. Give that baby of hers a huge hug and kiss, I know he will be ok with a great family like yours. Shasta, I am sure is happy & content in knowing he has you.
I would have liked to make her services, however I am in Columbus, OH, so I just can't pull it off. Just know I will be with you guys in spirit. If there is anything I can do, please don't hesitate to ask.
