Grundy Steiner Obituary

Grundy Steiner, 88, life long resident of Plainfield, passed away March 28, 2004 at his home surrounded by family and friends. Professor Steiner recieved his PhD from the University of Illinois in 1940. Past President of the IL Classical Conference and a WW II Veteran of the Signal Corps of the US Army, specializing in Cryptology. He taught at Westminister College, Missouri, prior to joining the Classics Dept at Northwestern University in 1947, retired in 1984. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary Florence Steiner. He is survived by his son, Frederick (Ling) Steiner and two daughters Theresa (John) Sisk Graybill and Janet (Todd) Soukup. Visitation will be Friday, April 9, 4 to 8 p.m. at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home, corner of Rte 30 and 59, Plainfield. Family and friends will gather on Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. at St. Edward and Christ Episcopal Church, 206 Midland Ave, Joliet. Interment Plainfield Township Cemetery. The family asks that donations be sent to The American Diabetes Association, PO BOX 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720 or Save a Pet Adoption Center, 31664 N.
