Obituary

After graduating high school, Travis L. Youngblood was rootless. The jobs he took at a grocery store and a garage didn''t satisfy him, said his father, Elmer Youngblood. "Maybe if you join the Navy you''ll see some of the world," the elder Youngblood, a Navy veteran, recalled telling his son. "You can get a good, decent job." "Like Daddy, like son," Travis Youngblood told his father after enlisting. Youngblood, 26, of Surrency, Ga., died July 21 of wounds he sustained from an explosion in Hit on July 15. He was assigned to Naval Hospital Great Lakes. He leaves behind a 4-year-old son, Hunter, and a wife who is pregnant with the baby he wanted to name Emma. "I''ve kind of gotten hooked on that name," Travis Youngblood wrote in his last letter to his wife, Laura. "It just makes me think of a cute little girly girl." He met his wife while both were training to become corpsmen at Camp Pendleton. They dated only a month before running off to Las Vegas to get married. A year later, in 2000, she gave birth to their son. "He knew how much I loved him and I knew how much he loved me," she said.

Happy birthday dad

Hello,
On Saturday, May 28 I ran in the Cpl Christopher G. Scherer Memorial "I Did the Grid" Run/Walk in East Northport, NY. Each runner had the names of four Fallen Heroes on their race bib, and we were asked to reflect on these warriors who had made the ultimate sacrifice while running the four mile course. Travis Youngblood was on my bib. To his loved ones, I want you to know that I was thinking about his service and sacrifice on Saturday and today, Memorial Day. God Bless...

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this month and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Travis L. Youngblood US Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it...

I served with Travis in Great Lakes. We were in the same duty section and worked together at Tranquility and Fischer Clinic. I was attending the Flags of Valor display and couldn’t find his memorial flag and I was upset. I was upset enough to reach out and ask why. I emailed them and gave all the information I had about Travis. Within the hour the Flags of Honor representative reached out and apologized about the misinformation I had received. Point of fact Travis is represented at the...

On behalf of a grateful nation...the photo of Travis' children at his graveside appeared on my Facebook today, Memorial Day, 2021. Please accept the condolences and gratitude of a grateful citizen.

To the Youngblood family,

I served with Travis. I did not know him until we met in 29 Palms before our deployment. There is so much I can say. To you his family as you know your husband, dad, and son is a true Patriot. I am so sorry that he did not grow with you- but he was so strong and is with you spiritually. God bless and please remember he is never forgotten.

I was deployed to Iraq assigned to the Theater Mortuary Evacuation Point. At the time I was an Army Staff Sergeant as a Chaplain Assistant. I recall processing Youngblood... please know we handled him with the utmost respect and dignity he deserved. After all; he was one of our own. We referred to all our Fallen as Angels; an idea from the Marines Corps Color Guard in charge of the ramp ceremonies (when angels arrived and departed T-MEP).
We have never forgotten...

Mrs. Youngblood, I never knew you or your husband or children until today my AF/Army mom/wife friend of mine sent me something in an email and a twitter feed I scrolled down showed me all the articles about you and your family. And today is your brave husband's birthday and I wanted to send you love and tell you that you and your children will always be in my prayers. I thank God for Travis's bravery serving our nation and his brothers and sisters in harm's way. I am typing this sitting...

Happy Birthday, Travis.
Always and forever.
