Though we have never met nor have no personal knowledge of each other, I would like to thank you for your HONORABLE service to your country...in BOTH BRANCHES. I thank you for your service to our country! Likewise, I thank your dedicated wife, Pam, and your daughter, Fallyn, for the sacrifices they made along with you. Duty is a double edge sword that cuts in more than one direction. While Fallyn has forever lost her father, she should look inside and draw strength from your courage and bravery and HER pride that will come from it. It will make her a stronger young woman. When the time comes, I hope that the college of her college of choice will step up to the plate and give her a full paid scholarship in honor of your service.

Pamela, Fallyn, Joan and Don,
A day doesn't go by that I dont think of the selfless sacrifice that Doug gave for our country. Five years ago we lost a wonderful father, husband, son and friend.
I miss Doug dearly and there are no words I can put down here to show how much I appreciate every kind act he showed throughout our friendship and his life.
Doug and the Zembiec Family are always in our hearts and minds.

To Pamela, Fallyn and the whole Zembiec family,
My heart is truly with you today, Memorial Day. I did not know you or the infamous 'Lion of Fallujah' but my heart aches for the loss of such a wonderful warrior with a huge heart. May you transition as he would have wanted and may Mary our Mother hold you as she held her own Son as you continue to build again a life that truly continues to have meaning.
Much love,

We can't believe 2 years have passed. We were looking at some of our old photos the other day and came across many from navy football games with Doug and our many wonderful navy friends. We were reminding our boys about Doug since they were younger when we all shared great navy days in Annapolis together. He is a great role model for our sons.
We still think of Doug often and remember his great service to our country. We say hello and think of him and all who gave everything, every time we pass Arlington which is quite often. We will be visiting ANC this weekend.
We wish all the Zembiec's love and continued peace and comfort. Our thoughts are with you this Memorial Day weekend!

To the family of Major Douglas A. Zembiec. Doug will never be forgotten he was a great American. I had the privilege of training, working and becoming friends with Doug as an instructor at Amphibious Recon School year’s prior. I was serving in Iraq the day I heard of his passing it was a sad day for all of us. He was a true professional, warrior and leader of Marines. My deepest sympathy and respect to him and his family.

I first met Major Zembiec in Bravo Comapany 1/6, in I believe 1996. This was a giant of a man, an officer of great stature and full of pride for his marines and service. I remember him teaching all of us how to roman wrestle. I have to mention a burly mountin type man covered in thick dark hair. When i heard of his death i called all the Marines i know that too knew him, we all shared our grief and stories of one of the greatest Marines of our times.
God bless you Major Zembiec and your sacrifice for me and our great country, and may he watch over your family with love, as you did for your family of Marines.

The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Douglas, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I was taken to meet Doug this afternoon, by a friend of mine, who served with Doug in Iraq. Listening to my friend express his enormous love and respect for Doug, in that quiet place, the lines of white marble marching out of sight over the rolling hills, I realize that there is no truer measure of a man than the love he earns from his comrades. I will take my children now to visit Doug-- and ofton-- and say to them here lies a great man, a true friend, a fearless warrior, an unwavering patriot, an American.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

Just found out the 4th of July about the lose of this great man.
We never meet him but we do have another view into his character.
In March 2007 Mr. Zembiec called us and scheduled a surprise
hot air balloon ride for him and his wife Pam to be flown July 5th,
2007 upon his return to the States from Iraq.
He lovingly planned many months ahead to share memorable experiences with his wife. To us this is very telling about his great character as husband and fellow human being beyond being a great warrior.

“Paid in Full”
To Honor The Service of Fallen and Injured Marines
Marines through and through, they paid the price
Six thousand miles away, we live the life
For which they paid with their blood, spirits and bodies
We will never forget what they paid in full
We hope and we pray that somehow their loved ones find comfort
In God, in the flag, in the memory of their loved ones’ bravery
They’re gone now but we see them still…proud, strong, willing
Covering each other’s backs… courageous, moving forward
What kind of love did they have for us to be willing
To give all for the Black, White, Jew, Christian, Muslim?
We don’t comprehend but we honor you now and forever
You are Our Marines…some living…some not
Forever in our hearts we will cherish your lives
Lives too short yet immortal they’ll be
Highest brotherhood of the Few, the Proud
They stand at attention, and we gaze with awe
Some know their names not, but our admiration for them
Flows limitless within us, between us
They sacrificed their limbs or their lives
Freedom still rings, a soft sound across the miles
It tolls slowly; all of creation takes note
Of lives that were lost for people unknown
Out of sight but not lost; forever among us
The starched blues marching straight
Toward the place where we will meet them
Many years from now…how we loved them…
Well done beloved Brothers and Sisters…You’ve paid it in full
Always Faithful Marines, You Have Paid it in Full

My sincerest condolences to Major Zembiec's family and friends. I read about Major Zembiec's brave exploits initially in an LA Times article around the time he went into Falluja, I was so impressed with his bravery and his unwavering committment to his men and the mission that when I read about his death, I instantly knew who it was. As a retired officer I understand Zembiec's committment, and he was indeed a superstar his loss is indeed a great one not only for his family and friends, but for this nation. Peace be with you my fellow warrior.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

Dear Mrs. Zembiec and Fallyn,
May I first offer my family's heartfelt love and prayers to you both. Maj. Zembiec gave his all to preserve the freedoms we hold so dear.
We lost our son, Cpl Matthew T. Bolar,on May 3rd and he was buried on the same gray afternoon that your husband was laid to rest. Maj Zembiec and Matthew now lay side by side in section 60. Matthew would be honored to know he is in the company of such a great man.
I know that right now no words can possibly fill the hole that is left in our hearts but I take comfort in the fact that they did what they did for the people and the country they loved.
Hopefully we may meet one day and share memories. Until then may God bless you both.

Dear Mrs. Zembiec and Fallyn,
Every once in a lifetime, there comes along an extraordinary person who makes an indelible impression in both mind and heart. I found that in your husband while reading of his courage, dedication and determination in a book called, "No True Glory." How pained I was to hear of his untimely death and I mourn with so many that this remarkable man is no longer here to help make this world a better place. I share in your grief and deep sorrow for I too lost my beloved husband in Iraq. Your Douglas and my Daniel shared so many wonderful attributes and I hope you can take comfort, as I have, that their courageous and honorable spirits will continue to go on for many years to come. Their willingness for the greater good is what enables me to carry on. I go to Arlington regularly and will be honored to visit your Douglas each time I go. May you find the strength and comfort of your family and friends to continue on. Know that you are not alone and that I will be keeping you and your Fallyn close in my thoughts and prayers.

My heart goes out to the Zembiec family at this time and in the days ahead. I attended school with Doug in Albuquerque and I considered him a friend. I remember his irreverent sense of humor, his good heart, and his sly smile- he made me laugh. We may have been political opposites, however I admire his commitment to justice for we shared this sensibility. The last time I saw him was when both of us had graduated from college and we had a good laugh. I can't believe I will never see him again, because I always thought I would. Doug was a very good person, and I have shed a few tears in the last few days thinking I'll never see him again.

I've never known a man like Doug Zembiec. It's hard to explain how a guy can emanate kindness and toughness at the same time, but he always did. Every time I was with him it was the only place to be, and every time we parted company I knew I had been in the company of greatness. Every time we spoke, he made me feel like our conversation was the only thing that mattered, always looking me in the eye and breaking contact with a firm handshake. I always wished I had worked for him, and envied those who did. I never thought of him as a friend because I didn't know him well enough to call him one, and I never thought of him as a peer because he was without equal. But neither of those facts ever stopped him from treating me as both. He embodied the warrior spirit, leading his men with a love that only warriors know and understand. He was the toughest man I've ever met, and I'd have followed him anywhere.

Doug is the son of retired Special Agent. I have met Doug on a couple of occasions, the normal funeral or special occasion, and we had a few beers and some conversation. Doug is very close friend of one of my best friends. Though we did not have time to get to know each other beyond the normal soldier conversation you knew right away he was an American warrior who allowed us to sleep comfortable at home while he kept our enemies at bay.
Though a young Marine Captain he took time out of his busy schedule to travel across country to visit our mutual Agent friend and mentor when our friend’s Dad passed over. That tells you something about his character. Keep Doug and his family in your prayers.

It's been many years since I last saw Doug, but I still count him among my friends, and hold him in very high esteem for his sense of courage, integrity, friendship, and loyalty. I am greatly saddened by his passing, and have found myself haunted by the sacrifice that he made. Indeed, there can be no greater demonstration of love for one's country.
I have little doubt that Doug and I would recently have held little in common in terms of our political perspectives, but at a deeper level, I am awed by his commitment, humbled by his service, and proud to have known him and called him a friend. I can speak in only the highest regard for Doug-- he is a warrior and a hero, and a person I've always respected. His death is truly a great loss.
To his family-- if there is anything that you need, please don't hesitate to ask.

To the Zembiec Family. I was grateful and honored to have served as a platoon commander under maj Zembiec when I was in Echo Co, 2nd Bn, 1st Marines. I have never met a more dedicated man. Dedicated to his Marines as well as his family. I feel like a piece of the Marine Corps family has been taken but I take solace in knowing that Doug passed doing what he loved the most. Protecting this great country and doing what he believed what needed to be done. Maj Zembiec will be missed but never forgotten. I will never forget those words he told that CNN reporter on the opening days of the Battle for Fallujah. "These insurgents think they're getting hit hard! Guess what! They haven't seen anything yet!!!!" That was Doug!

I did not know Maj. Zembiec, but he was the Bn co. of 2/1 when my brother in law (Maj. Michael Martino "Oprah") served under him in 4/04 in Fallujah. He always wrote about how much he respected Doug.
Our family attended Doug's burial today at Arlington. We were amazed at how many people were there - he was obvioulsy a friend to many. Michael and Doug now lay only a few stones apart from each other, along with all the other brave men and women who have fought. Doug's in the best of company and we appreciate all he did.

Dear Pam & Fallyn & Zembiec Family -
I knew Doug pretty well throughout junior high and high school and always thought he was a genius, goofball, and born leader. About a year ago I heard he was living in the DC area and hunted down his information and had lunch with him. He talked about how much he loved life, his men, his wife, his daughter, his family, and his country. He wasn't all about himself and was so proud of others around him, like the fact that Pam had run a marathon. Even though we came to be on opposite sides of every political & social spectrum possible, I could tell he respected what i do and believe in, and i damn well respect what he did and believed in. i was heartbroken to hear this news from my parents this weekend and please know that it's not just military members or republicans who recognize bravery, heroism, and authenticity when they see it, but all conscientious and thoughtful americans, of whatever background or political persuasion. I am proud and honored to have known your husband/father/son, and will keep you in my thoughts.

Doug was always a protector and a leader for as long as I knew him. His leadership on and off the wrestling mats and on the field of battle were always unmatched. As a friend and fellow Marine I know that Doug wanted to help people. He died for his family and country, for our freedoms. We will miss you Doug!
