Natalie Pearlman Obituary

PEARLMAN, NATALIE Many things brought joy to Natalie Pearlman, none greater than being with family and friends. Her love radiated through her shining eyes and her unconditional acceptance of human nature - extraordinary traits leaving a permanent imprint in our hearts. Natalie died September 16, 2008, surrounded by loved ones at home. Natalie, 75, was born in Chicago to Don and Rose Frankel on March 17, 1933, and married Leonard Pearlman in 1955. They moved to San Diego in 1979 with their three daughters. Nat graduated from Chicago Teachers College, received her Masters Degree in counseling from Northeastern Illinois University. She earned a teaching credential from San Diego State. After 30 years of teaching, Natalie Pearlman began Frank Stuart Enterprises with her brother, Herb, and they enjoyed 25 years of an outstanding photography business throughout San Diego County. Natalie leaves behind her husband, Leonard, and two brothers, Herb and Lane, three daughters, Elyse Pearlman, Sheryl (Gershon) Overlander and Karen Pearlman, as well as 12 wonderful grandchildren. Natalie is grateful to her doctors and San Diego Hospice. Funeral services are at 3 p.m. today, September 18th, at Home of Peace. Donations may be sent to the Natalie Pearlman Foundation, a scholarship program for medical students to study cancer research. Call (619) 521-9830 or visit thebookman.org.

I just heard the sad news today. She was a wonderful, sweet woman who touched everyone she encountered -- and everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her is sharing the loss. Unconditional love is her legacy. In grief, may that bring the family a measure of comfort.

As a friend of Karen's, I heard her speak frequently of her mother, always with love and admiration. Although I did not know Natalie personally, through Karen, I felt as if I did. She seems to have been quite a woman, but above all, a wonderful friend, mother and grandmother. I know she will be missed but her memory will live on.

Thank you, Karen for sharing your stories and giving me a glimpse into your mother's life.

We regularly exchanged our favorite books, shared hours of quality time trying to figure out each new glitch in her computer, and oh how I loved her matzoh ball soup. I will miss my friend and neighbor.

Natalie was the true definition of friendship, loyalty, compassion and unconditional acceptance. She focused on the good in everyone, and touched so many lives, so deeply. My bestest buddy, I was especially blessed with sharing a fence. She made so many positive differences in my life. So many memories. Always and ever she will be inside my being... calming, uplifting, and putting a smile on my face.

dear Lenny,Cheryl,Elyse,Karan and brother Herbie. I can only imagine the emptyness you all must be feeling because I know how deeply lost I feel. You know I loved Nat like a sister having had her in my life for almost 30 years. She would always tell me if I lived in San Diego I would be her best friend. Her departure leaves me empty. I can not even think of Laughlin w/out thinking of Nat {Our Leader], She always knew the how and where to find the best deals. She always made sure everyone was satisfied with their accomodations. When you hear the expression that some one is so generous they would give you the shirt of their back, well that was Nat. On one of our visits I admired one of her dresses she was wearing. She literally went into her room, changed and came out with her dress in hand and gave it to me. But there was a side to Nat that most peaple did not see unless you happened to play a game called Boggle with her, then she became Nat the cut throat. My husband worked with Lenny in Illinois at Sears. We all have many wonderful memories and I know that Natalie would not want us to dwell on her passing, rather she would want us to rejoice in the life she lived and loved. I could just here her saying"carry on". Bye my Buddy Love Bunny

Natalie was a good woman with tons of compassion for her family and friend. All that knew her will miss her hugs, grins and encouraging words. These wonderful traits were passed on to her children and grand children and in their eyes a person can all ways see traces of Natalie. She will be greatly missed, but not forgotten

Weary of a world nearly lost to selfishness, I found joy in the oasis of hearing Natalie's voice on the phone, or seeing the magic sparkle of her eyes at the Pearlman home, and learned from her to hold fast to the hope that the better aspirations of friendship & love could prevail. In the thunderheads encircling San Diego the day Natalie was laid to rest, her spirit rose with the clouds. The loves of their lives were so many that Leonard is deservedly surrounded by family and caring friends during this time - in the truest testament to the magnificence of the golden bond between a husband & wife. Shalom u-leitraot Natalie - the brilliance of your true heart is ever enhanced by your merry laughter, Love, Dino

I first met Natalie as a teaching partner in Special Education classes when the Pearlmans first arrived in San Diego in 1979. She was so sincere and caring that the students warmed up to her immediately. I was welcomed into her home on many occasions over the years, her generosity had no bounds, and she leaves all she touched so much richer than before.

As I sit here crying for my childhood friend Karen, I also Smile. Mrs Pearlman always was kind to me as a child. I can only imagine her playing with the best dog in the world now, Misty. If anyone knows the poem "Live The Dash", they will know that poem was written for people like the whole Pearlman family. What a wonderful legacy she has left the world with such Menchen for kids. My heart is heavy for Karen. May you all find comfort in so many that love and care about you. I love you!

However I have known her daughter, Karen, both professionally and personally, through our work in sports media and our passion for the humane treatment of all living creatures.
