De PERALTA Sr., ARMANDO RENE GRAVE Armando Rene Grave de Peralta Sr., a resident of La Jolla, California, and a former resident of New York for most of his life, died on July 3, 2009, at the age of 94 years. Mr. de Peralta was born in New Orleans on November 8, 1914, the son of Pedro Grave de Peralta, who was the then Argentinean Ambassador to the United States and Adele Gloria de Peralta who was actively involved in New York society. Mr. de Peralta began his business career as the leader of his band "Armando and his Ambassadors" and as the owner of the Pago - Pago Club, a popular nightclub frequented by New York society in the 1930s and 1940s. Mr. de Peralta himself had the reputation of being a bon vivant and was frequently included in society columns. During his military service as a Corporal with the 375th Field Artillery Battalion, Mr. de Peralta was injured by a misplaced land mine resulting in the total paralysis of his legs. Fortunately, Mr. de Peralta had not allowed his military injury to deter him from commencing a new career in the shipping industry where he started as an employee for 26 years with Thor Eckert & Co. prior to founding his own shipping company, Peralta Shipping Corporation, which became the exclusive transatlantic shipper of the paper products of International Paper Company and the St. Regis Paper Company. After Mr. de Peralta sold his shipping business, he commenced several new careers as a real estate investor and developer, a co-producer of a variety of Broadway musicals, an author of eight published books of romantic poetry, and as a philanthropist. Mr. de Peralta's life was the subject of an improvisational ensemble play 'Life Game' at the La Jolla Playhouse Forum in 2000. Mr. de Peralta is survived by his wife, Rosalba Roca Grave de Peralta and their children Frederic de Peralta and William Adams de Peralta, and by Joyce Patafio and their children, Rene Armando de Peralta and Marcello de Peralta. His first wife Marcia de Peralta died on September 17, 2007, and their son, Armando de Peralta Jr., also died on August 17, 2004. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 7, 2009 from 4 - 6 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Mr. de Peralta's home, 9882 La Jolla Farms Road, La Jolla, CA 92037, with a prayer service beginning at 6:30 p.m. Committal Service will take place Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Greenwood Memorial Park, 4300 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113. Donations in his memory may be made to the Department of Veterans Administration. Arrangements have been trusted to Greenwood Mortuary (619) 264-3131.

It has been a year today, you have no idea how much you are missed, but then again we spoke about it many times and I always let you know how important and how much you meant to me. I told you every day. You have forever changed my life, I thank you for that and miss and love you dearly. Once in a life time, that is what you are.

Thank you Silver, for letting me know of Armando. It was such an incredible pleasure to meet him my one and only time, and hear all his stories. My mom, Josephine, danced with him and cared deeply for him when they were both very young. I too hope they're dancing in heaven together. Con mucho cariño, Rosi, Brian, Alisa & Sonia Amador

As Armando's "U-NI-QUE his nick name for me, my 13 years being blessed with him in my life, was to short. Always a GENTLEMAN,never complained, enjoyed life to the fullest. He made me a better woman, taught me "Patience is bitter but the fruit is sweet" and "this to shall pass" words of wisdom that will be with me forever. I thank his family for sharing him with me. His wife Rosalba who was always so kind to me. I miss him so much and loved him dearly, he was such a strong man and all who met him adored him, all my friends knew Mr.D!! One in million, once in a life time, I was truly blessed with the time I had with him. My friend, Ann Mound, Exec. Dir. of the Vista Hill Foundation, shared the news of Armando's passing with me. I feel so honored to have known him. I considered him the community's standard bearer of "suave". As development director for La Jolla Playhouse ('92-'02), it was my pleasure to greet Armando on many an opening night, and get the phone call later with his tally of a show's merits and flaws. He worked, gave and lived passionately and inspirationally. My husband, Lou Simon and I share our thanks with the family for the privilege of knowing Armando and wish all of you well.

So sorry to hear of Mr. DePeralta's passing. I am a nurse at the VA SCI Center have helped care for him over the last 20 years. He was a brilliant man with a tough might and great determination (and a good poet too!). He will be missed by all who knew him. I hope the knowledge that he is at peace and now without pain will make his passing more bearable for you all.
