Marcelyn Stoddard Obituary

STODDARD (Pruett), MARCELYN ANN
Marcelyn Ann Stoddard, 40, passed away of breast cancer with her husband and family by her side on October 29, 2007. Marcie was born on October 5, 1967 in San Diego, California. After graduating from Crawford High School and starting college, she began traveling abroad. Her travels included studies at Oxford and in Scotland and Paris, which contributed credits to her graduation from San Diego State University. Building on those first two trips, she continuously toured when she could, visiting countries throughout Europe.
Marcie visited nearly every country in Europe, developing a particular love for Paris, the city of lights, which she made several trips to and arranged to begin or end most of her tours. Her intrepid travels included trips to countries behind the Iron Curtain before the end of the cold war. She found something beautiful in every country she visited, from the Mediterranean to Scandinavia and the North Sea. She never failed to bring gifts from her travels to her loved ones and friends. An avid museum-goer and lover of film and books, Marcie spent many days with her mother or friends on trips to the Getty and various venues in Balboa Park and around San Diego. She cherished her reading time, collecting Bukowski and Hemingway and reading newer authors with both aplomb and a critical eye. Her taste in movies was broad, and she enjoyed a vast assemblage of foreign, domestic, classical and modern films in numerous genres. An accomplished cook and baker, Marcie's joy was in feeding her loved ones and friends. Her cakes, cookies, brownies and other items were favorites to family and friends alike, both at home and in her office. Marcie worked for the San Diego Union-Tribune for 13 years. Her hard work and dedication took her from the customer service phone room to the position of job scheduler, then to classified sales. After some time in that position, she moved over to the SignOnSanDiego Business Development team, her last department with the company. Along the way, she accumulated a huge group of friends and fans as she entertained with her food and travel stories, her quick wit and kind heart. Marcie is survived by her beloved husband Frank Pruett, parents Robert and Barbara, her big brother Bobby, and her precious Seamus. A sunset memorial and celebration of life is planned, along with a wake. Information on both will be posted at http://somemomentsofmarcie.blogspot.com when plans are finalized. Donations, in memory of Marcelyn Ann Stoddard Pruett, may be sent to Friends of Cats, PO Box 1613, Lakeside, CA 92040. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com

Wow ! I left the U.T. in 1998 and never looked back. I worked with Marcie in Subscriber services when she was a Job Scheduler. I thought about her the other day and her name brought me here. Marcie was an Angel hiding in plain sight. Very Special and just Lovely to be around. Peace Out my dear - Rose

Dear Stoddard Family,

I had the privilege of knowing Marcie through a 2 month tour of Europe in the summer of 1988. We hit it off immediately. I was very impressed with the fact that she had saved every penny herself for this tour. At the time she was 20 or 21 years old. She was wise and mature beyond her years. She loved history, art, and literature which was a great prerequisite for European travel. I loved her sense of humor and hearty laugh. Her positive spirit and vibrant personality were also a plus.

We shared many wonderful moments together including: a gondola ride in Venice, riding scooters in the Greek Isles,a chairlift to the top of a mountain in the Swiss Alps, numerous museums, and meals.

I will always remember one special meal. Marcie carried a big white bag with her. It contained every imaginable supply and convenience under the sun. As an example: If we stopped at a fruit stand and bought some fruit to eat, she would have handy wipes in her magic bag so we could clean the sticky fruit juice off our hands. Anyway after having her take care of me in this fashion for a month and a half I told her that when we got to Italy that I would take her to any restaurant she wanted to go to in either Venice, Florence, or Rome. She chose Tre Scalini on the Piazza Navona in Rome. We enjoyed a wonderful meal and many laughs, then went out and got some gelato.

As time goes on I know I will think of other stories about Marcie. I was shocked when I read her obituary and had to go to bed for a couple of hours. Marcie was a beautiful human being and I know that she is smiling down on all of us now.

The photos that published in the newspaper so very much captured the essence of Marcie...strong and vibrant. She was one amazing human being, both in beauty and in intelligence. Such a hunger for knowledge and a quest to TRULY experience life.

I had the pleasure of working first with her brother Bobby and then with Marcie. And both had the capacity to make you laugh so much, you'd be in tears. What an extraordinary gift. And what an extraordinary loss.

We can all take comfort in knowing that there's an enormous amount of laughter going on right now, beyond this world.

I'm so sorry for you, Frank and Bobby and Mr and Mrs Stoddard. Hoping you find the strength to get you through the pain and the loss.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Stoddard, Bobby, and Frank, I am so sorry to hear the devastating news of Marcie. Although I had not spoken to her in a couple of years, I will miss her terribly. Marcie was my best-friend while growing up. I have so many fond memories of her and the family. She I were were inseparable from 1st grade through 7th grade. We took turns spending weekends at each others homes. I will always cherish those wonderful moments. I remember Sunday morning breakfasts and having to eat SOS and hating every minute of it. I loved being at your home and spending the night in Marcie's orange and yellow room. I remember loading up the brown station wagon and spending many days at Torrey Pines Beach with your family, going to Borrego Springs in the summer, going to Hawaii during summer of 8th grade, selling Girl Scout cookies together, swimming on the swim team and playing softball. Most importantly, I will cherish the memory of Marcie being a bridesmaid at my wedding and sharing in such a special part of my life. Always know that I am here for you and know the pain you are going through. I lost my beautiful Mother on August 3, 2007. She used to baby-sit Marcie and Bobby and loved them dearly. I can take comfort in knowing that they are in heaven trading recipes now. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and that Marcie is now free of pain and suffering and we will meet her again, somewhere in time. God Bless you all. All my love, Terri
