Childhood friend Chris House said Neal Mitchell's tenacity in military life started in the playground as they played laser tag. "Neal was a little guy, but he was a giant. He was fearless because he was just a competitor, just strong and that's what makes him a giant on the inside," said House. Mitchell, 21, of West Memphis, Ark., was killed Jan. 6 during an ambush in Baghdad. He was a 2004 high school graduate and was assigned to Fort Drum. His grandmother, Joyce Mitchell, said he was a point man, a lookout ahead of the patrol. She remembers asking him why. "He said, 'I'm not the best shot. But I'm the fastest.'" Mitchell spent most of his childhood in Aurora, Colo., and in 2002 went to live with grandparents in West Memphis. He attended Arkansas State University before joining the Army. "Neal brought pride to my name because he did a job for the benefit of every person in this country and he laid down his life," said his grandfather, Raymond Mitchell Sr. He also is survived by his parents, Carolyn and Raymond. "Neal was not selfish with his life," said Matt Daigle, a classmate.

Not sure what to say?

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this month and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Raymond N. Mitchell III US Army Specialist.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made...

Every minute of every day I wish I could call you up and talk to you. Wish we could share a drink together. Youll always be my hero, and always my role model. I will never be half the person you were. I love you.

Neal, we miss you and we try to live like
you would be as proud of us as we are proud of you. We love you
PaPaw and Grandma

Neal, you are the first thing I think about every day. I love and miss you so much. I love you son.

To the family and friends of Spc. Raymond N. Mitchell:
It has truly been my honor to sign Raymond's guest book these past few years. Unfortunately, due to complications from my Multiple Sclerosis, this may be the last message I'm able to write. Please forgive me and know that Raymond will always be remembered in my home.
With love and respect ~ Peggy

Neal, I thought it would be easier now. It's been 5 years since I dropped you off at the airport. You are still the 1st thing I think about every morning. I love and miss you son.
