Jacob D. Dones loved life in the Army. His sister, Priscilla Rojas, joined the Marines. That led to more than a little sibling rivalry. "In a Pizza Hut once, he was starting to talk about how the Army was better than the Marines," Rojas said. As they playfully fought about it, he put her in a choke hold, she said with a laugh. "He was always laughing and cracking jokes. He was very confident." Dones, 21, of Dimmitt, Texas, was killed Oct. 20 in Hit from a mortar attack. He was assigned to Fort Irwin. "No matter how crappy a job he had to do, he always managed to find a way to make a joke about it," Spc. Jonathan Cruz said. "He was serious about his job, and he knew how to tell the difference between joking around and working." Dones graduated from high school in 2002 and enlisted in the Army that year. He was on his second tour of duty in Iraq. "He was an inspiration to the younger soldiers because he'd been through this before," said Sgt. Stephen Freitas. "He would keep the younger soldiers on track." Dones was soon to be married and had a 5-year-old daughter.

Not sure what to say?

Hello again. I am J.J.'s sister. On behalf of our mother (Rosa Doñes), sister (Jessica Ramirez), brother (Daniel Doñes), bother (Jason Doñes) and myself; thank you. Thank you for thinking of him and posting on his guest book. Thank you for thinking and praying for our family and our extended family.

J.J is greatly missed and still loved. We think of him often. It's amazing to know he touched many lives and made such a great impact during his time here on earth. We know he watches...

Miss you Dones....

I miss you, brother. Hit as a tough gig for us. I still think of the long hours we spent together in the Bradley on Route Tampa; you always had some funny stories to pass the time. I think of you often and wish you were here.

Youre heavy on my heart today! We miss and love you so much!

I still think of you every single day. It never gets easier. I am so lucky to have known such a great person. I hold each memory of you close to my heart.

U.S. Congressman Trent Kelly served with SGT Dones in Iraq. He would like to honor him as he has other soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Will someone from the family please contact our office? Our number is (662) 841-8808. Congressman Kelly is a Colonel in the Mississippi Army National Guard. Thank you

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Dones Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Jacob D. Dones US Army Sergeant. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded...
