Dear Laurel,

It's so hard to believe you've been gone a year now. I think of you every single day ..wishing you were here ..wishing I could talk to you ..wishing I could tell you how much you mean to me ..My heart hurts so badly now because of you being gone. I dream of you sometimes. I hope that's your way of "coming back". I will never forget you, my dear friend. I believe the heart & spirit lives on forever. You will always be in my heart ..always.

Your friend,
~Rebecca (& Twixybelle ..who misses Aldo terribly)

Dear Laurel,

it's hard to believe that 12 months have slipped by since you so suddenly passed away;

I think of you often with a heavy heart and still get teary whenever Aldo, Noelle and Tess are spoken of on Catster ...

Aldo and Noelle are happily settled into their new homes; Tess's whereabouts is still unknown but as her carrier went missing at the same time, it's a pretty safe bet that she too has found a new furrever home ...

today I found this poem which must have been written just for you ... :)

~Peace Within ~

May you trust God
that you are exactly
where you are meant to be

May you not forget the
infinite possibilities that
are born from knowing faith

May you use those gifts
that you have received
by sharing that love

May you be at peace
knowing that you
are a child of God

Laurel, Thought of you so many times, this Thanksgiving. I know you and I would be doing Christmas pages for our cats right now. How I wish I could tell you, just once more, that I treasured your friendship, and I even miss your scoldings! Watch over me, OK? Love, Teri

There was a beautiful rainstorm (so rare) at sunset this evening, the sky was golden as the sun shone through. And a double rainbow! My folks came over for dinner, then Mom told a story about Laurel and I at a movie theatre back in the 1960s... Laurel swallowed a nickle, the manager put us both out on the sidewalk in downtown Tampa and called my Mom to come get us... funny, we were just kids having fun... Mom relived that story, and I came in to google you... no idea you'd just recently passed. Seems like yesterday we were schoolmates at St. John's. I always smile when I think of you (and I kicked out of the movie theatre). :) Peace be with you and your loved ones...

I wanted to resign and post a favourite quote. I wish I had known you and your furbabies on Catster/Dogster, but out paths never crossed. If heaven finds you with a fat tortie bridge kitty on your feet, that's Tigger and she's giving you the love I couldn't.

"Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice, but for those who love, time is eternity."
-- Henry Van Dyke

Laurel, I didn't really know you while you were on earth, but I have come to know the beauty of your soul as reflected in the love and compassion you inspire in others... We will try to live up to the legacy of warmth, caring and love you have left behind by giving beautiful lives to those you loved the most - Tess, Aldo and Noelle. May you be at peace, knowing your memory lives in all our hearts.

Laurel,
Some of us at Catster only knew you through your cats. That doesn't mean we don't miss you deeply and pray for you and your family. God bless you and your babies.

Laurel, I knew you only through your posts on Catster through Aldo and Tess. However, I can see from the response of your closer friends how deeply you will be missed. I hope you know how your passing has brought so many people from far and wide together to try to care for your fur babies. It is truly amazing and we know you inspired all that love. Rest in peace.

I never had the privilege of knowing Laurel either in life or online, but I do know she has left a stunning legacy of community love and caring. Wherever her shining spirit is now, I know it is smiling at the concern utter strangers have shown for the safety and welfare of her beloved dog and cats.

Laurel, you had good friends you never even knew, who were willing to step up and travel far to help the creatures you loved. You have touched the lives of many companion animals, who thanks to your story now have a stronger safety net protecting them. Rest in peace.

I have come to know Laurel after her passing, through her Catster and Dogster friends. I wish I had met her at some time on Catster, as Laurel was obviously a fascinating person, with a kind heart and a good soul. She has brought so many people together, and touched so many lives and hearts. Laurel, you will be missed; may your journey be peaceful.

"Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing.
And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb.
And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance."

Laurel, you are greatly missed. Though I only knew you a short time, you were a kindred spirit. There are no words to truly express what your life meant. Now you are reunited with your loved ones (pets included) in Heaven and at the Rainbow Bridge. Your suffering is ended, and you have peace.

AM NOT THERE

Do not stand by my grave and weep
For I am not there.

I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am diamonds that glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the morning hush I am the swift uplifting rush of butterflies in joyous flight.

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there.
I did not die.

I knew Laurel through her precious furkids on Catster - her gentleness came through loud and clear whenever Aldo or Tess spoke ... that gentleness is still felt and will be missed.

God speed, Laurel - we shall meet one day.

for Laurel, from all her Catster and Dogster friends world-wide:

"I thought of you with love today.
But that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday.
And days before that too.

I think of you in silence.
I often speak your name.
Now all I have is memories.
And your picture in a frame.

Your memory is my keepsake.
With which I'll never part.
God has you in his keeping.
I have you in my heart."

Rest in peace, dear Laurel, till you are reunited with Tess, Aldo and Noelle again.

Loving memories of a remarkable lady ...

Laurel, we didn't get off on the right foot [or paw] but we made up for it later. Our love of cats and people forged a bond, and I am sorry that we weren't closer and I couldn't have helped you more. Everyone is trying to care for your animals and prepare materials to help others, so they can be prepared for the sudden journey you have just made. You were a force for good and caring while you were here and after you were gone. Rest easily, and I hope that you are accompanied by your beloved pets forever.

I only knew Laurel online, and even then, not as well as I would have liked. From the few, short messages we shared, though, I could tell she was a very special person who left us far too soon.

Laurel was always very sweet and supportive to me. We'll all miss her.

I first met Laurel online in late 2007 and found out she was kind, caring and generous. Even if we didn't become 'best buddies' in that short time, she touched my heart deeply with her spirit of love. Sending my warmest thoughts and loving hugs to the family and close friends.

Dearest Laurel,

No words can express how much you meant to me. You were not only a dear friend of mine, but my mentor. You taught me so much and helped me grow up. You truly were a special and beautiful person, Laurel.

I love you so much and miss you terribly. I pray you know that...You always pushed me to be the best that I could be. I know that was why you were so hard on me. I hope I can make you proud some day.

Rest in peace, my dear friend. You may be gone, but you are in my heart.

My deepest sympathies goes out to your family and friends.

Love always,
~Rebecca & Twixybelle

Laurel, we shared the love of this quote:
"On the tongue of the temple bell, a butterfly sleeps." You were the beautiful and frail butterfly, and like the butterfly, your life was short. But your voice, and the immense love of your heart, rang out like the chimes of the temple bell, and have been heard by hundreds around the world. Rest in eternal peace, my dear friend. I will never forget you.
