Mary Roman Obituary

ROMAN, Mary E. "Dopey" "Mom" "Nana" "Jo," 85, of Tampa, passed away peacefully March 21, 2006. She was born in Springfield, Mass., but made Tampa her home with her husband, George, and five children, after 23 years as an Air Force wife. Mary was a registered nurse for 17 of her 30 years at St. Joseph's Hospital and held various positions, including the opening of the Surgicare unit, and ended her career as head of obstretrics. She claimed this was the most meaningful and proudest of times during her profession. She personally assisted in bringing her grandchildren into the world as well as many children of those she considered her extended family. After retiring, she worked side-by-side with her beloved husband at his accounting and tax practice for over 20 years. Each client took her on as "Mom" and her extended family continued to grow. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She is survived by her sons, Richard and wife, Joan, David and wife, Hope, and Donald and wife Pam; daughters, Patty, and Mary Ann and husband, Ray. She is also survived by grandchildren, Terry Schneider, Robert Atha, Rayanne Crawford, Jennifer Roman, Stacey Walker, Alicia Roman, Tricia Klaus, Jason Walker and Eric Klaus; and three great-grandchildren. Mary alwasy put her family and friends first, and touched the lives of many. She will be greatly missed but always remembered by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Cohen and all his staff for the years of care and concern for Mary, University Village for their kind support, and her many concerned and caring friends. Pallbearers are Richard Roman, Don Roman, Ray Klaus, Jason Walker, Erick Klaus and Chris Crawford. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. this evening, March 24, 2006, at Marsicano Funeral Home, 4040 Henderson Blvd. Mary's life will be celebrated with a Mass at 1 p.m. March 25, 2006, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Entombment will immediately follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation or a charity of your choice.
