Dear Robin,
It's been almost a year since we celebrated our 50th, with the amazing brunch you so lovingly prepared for all of us. What a glorious day that was, and how proud George was of you! He brought so much to our lives that it is hard to think he's no longer here on earth with us. Please know of our continued sympathy for you, Judy, and all his family.

Robin and Family,

Pam and I wish to express our condolences for your loss. We attempted to keep up with his condition after the operation. I have been gone from Delmar for 50 years and personally have a terrible time with faces. After all those years some faces still belonged to the names. Conversations with others confirm they are the owners of the names. With George only a few words were required to establish his old identity as a warm and friendly person. We would like to express our thanks for your warm hospitality at the reunion gathering. May God bless both of you.

Dear Robin,
My deepest and most sincere condolences for the loss of George.
I go a long way back with George, since the late 1960's when he was teaching Special Education for Rockland County BOCES.
I remember so well when he finally decided to devote full time to writing and resign from teaching. I was teaching Italian and Spanish at Tappan Zee H.S. with the South Orangetown High School and George was teaching at the South Orangetwon Middle School for BOCES. He felt so liberated when he finally could devote his time to what he loved most, writing.
George and I would go skiing at Hunter Mountain on Saturdays during January and February for a number of years. His infectious laugh is something I am hearing as I am writing this note. When my children would come skiing with us, they were ages 6 and 8, George would play games with them in the car, so that, they would not fight after a day of skiing. He would give them the "sleeping" test and before you knew it, they would be fast asleep! Then, we would go to my house or to his Spring Valley Condo and we would make dinner and have my Italian wine with music in the background and the ever present hearty laughter.
I heard of his passing this morning while I was talking to Ori in Aix En Provence with whom my wife and I have kept in contact.
Unfortunately, we had lost contact with George for a long time. The last time I saw him was at Stop and Shop supermarket in West Nyack when he was living in Nyack and after shopping I took him home when he told me he had taken the bus from the village to the store.
I can never forget those times skiing when we used fall all over the place because we used to ski on slopes we didn't belong to and we used to laugh so hard trying to figure out how to get down the West side of Hunter Mountain. We used to look at one another, shake our heads and laughing while saying that it was "so crazy!". But, guess what? We would make another run trying not to spend so much time on our back getting down those slopes.
Again, please accept our condolences.

To Robin and all of George's family,
On behalf of everyone associated with the 1994 Bouchercon, the World Mystery Convention, where George was our Toastmaster, please accept our sympathy for your loss. George was a delight to work with, did us proud and we all appreciated the chance to get to know him.
George's work was like no one else's. As someone with a disability, I have a lasting fondness for the wonderful character of Mongo, and have always been grateful for his creation.
We're all so sorry for your loss and wish you well.

Hi all,
I never knew George other than through his writiing. I always was delighted to discover a title I hadn't yet read; I loved his twists and turns and, of course, all his characters. George, thank YOU for making many a long flight shorter and allowing me to indulge in the guilty pleasure of a Mongo adventure time and time again.

Robin,
I truly enjoyed getting to know you and your husband. It was evident to all of the nurses involved in his care how much the two of you cared for each other. It was very touching to see you reading George his books. I am sure it is a memory you will treasure for a long time. Please accept our condolences.

Our lives are full of treasurers, but non greater than being friends with George and you. There are so many fond memories --which in turn produce smiles--both of which will
never be forgotten nor fade.

Robin,
It was an honor to have spent time with you and George preparing for our 50th reunion and, later, enjoying the remarkable weekend we all shared together. He was very proud of all you did to make this event so special. George leaves us the memory of his warmth and affection, as well as his literature that will live in our hearts and minds forever. We are all very fortunate to have known him.

Dear Robin and family,
Although we never met you, we knew George in high school. George was special - a student leader, a superbe athlete and about the most likeable person you could ever meet. Although our paths diverged greatly in the years since, we (Jacqueline Bergé Smith and I) often have remembered George with fondness and will continue to do so. A wonderful person.
