I'll always remember and miss you, Don. Though, I didn't get the chance to meet you face to face, I still considered you a good friend. I wish I could turn back the hands of time. So, that way I could have at least met you during that brief moment you were in Chicago (in the airport). I wish I could have been a better friend (and pen pal) to you. I saved the letters you sent me. I wish I hadn't let things prevent me from sending as much letters as I wanted to. I wish I had thought way ahead of time (before my comp wigged out) to save the conversations we had via instant messenger. I'll cherish the conversations we had on the phone. I wish I had the guts much sooner than now, to do the bit of digging I did, to find out that you had passed away. You died much to soon.. I had wished for you to live a long life filled with happiness.
I wish I had told you that I respected you for fighting for all of us US citizens. You died a hero.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Donald, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Young family,
I am sorry to learn of Donald's death, but I wish to express to you my gratitude for his efforts in the Army. He began serving America and sacrificing for each one of us long before he was called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice. He is worthy of our honor and continued appreciation.
Thank you for sharing him with us, even in his tender years.

Young was my battle buddy in basic. You get to know a person pretty well when you sleep 3 feet away from each other for 3 1/2 months. Not only that, but we were sent to the same company when we arrived to Texas. I learned that Donald was a good kid when I first met him, and over the 2 1/2 year period after I saw him mature into a good man. I saw you that afternoon for the first time in months, you heading to the motorpool for patrol, me coming back from it... I'm just glad I got a chance to say hello. We miss you brother.

GOODBYE MY SOLDIER DEAR

My days grow long and weary,
When you’re no longer near.
Confidence replaced with questions,
Strength replaced with fear.

The assuredness that I awake with each day,
Is nowhere to be found,
As though my dreams and aspirations,
Were buried underground.

I hear your voice being carried by the wind,
Like your fingers through my hair,
I close my eyes and remember your kiss,
And wish that you were there.

So with nothing left but one thing to say,
To resolve my heartbreak here,
Goodbye my darling and my love,
Goodbye my soldier dear!

I went to school with Donald, starting in 6th grade. He was a sweet, caring young man, and had a lot of energy and spunk. He was always very nice to me and was quite a goofball in class. I was heartbroken when I heard of his untimely death. I know he will be missed by all, and even though his smile no longer lights up this earth, I know that he's looking down from heaven, smiling down upon all of us. My prayers go out to Donald's family, as does my respect and honor for Donald for sacrificing himself for our country. RIP Donald Michael Leon Young. You will be missed.

RIP

August 16, 2007

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

When I left this world without you
I know it mad you blue.
Your tears fell so freely,
I watched Iknow this is true.

While you were weeping,
Days after I passes away -
While all was silent within me,
I saw you kneel and pray.

From this wonderful place called heaven
Where all my pain is gone,
I sent a gentle breeze to whisper,
"My loved ones, please go on."

The peace that I have found here
Goes far beyond compare
No rain, no clouds, no suffering -
Just LOVE from everywhere.

You need not be troubled
Just stay close to God in prayer
someday we'll be reunited
My love, his love surronds you always
EVERYWHERE!!!

We knew Donald "Mikey" when he was a young boy. He was the most energetic, curious little guy we had ever seen. As he grew into a young man, he made a decision to enlist in the Army. What an honorable thing to do, serving your country. We were so proud of Mikey's accomplishments, as he helped to protect America. We grieve for his Dad, Mom (Donna), Sister (Shelly), and others that were close to him. Our prayers are with you.

The family and I would like to thank all who knew Donald, for you added a part to his life that he needed; and since most who knew him either really liked him or loved him, my thoughts go out to all of you. My son died protecting the right of everyone to have the right to be free, regardless of who or where they might be. Again, thank you...

Mikey
I will miss you dear cousin. I wish I could have spent more time with you over the years. I have kept you in my prayers and will now pray even more for your sister and parents as they deal with losing you. I will always remember you as the sweet little boy I knew who loved to learn. You may be my cousin, but truly you were more like a brother than you knew. I wish I could have told you that.

My heart goes out to the family of this courageous hero. I can only imagine your pain. May God be with you all over these next days and weeks, and give you comfort.

Our family is only a few days ahead of you in this most heartbreaking time, after losing our hero Spc Braden J Long.

Father we entrust our brother Donald to your mercy. You loved him greatly in this life: now that he is freed from all its cares, give him happiness and peace forever. Welcome him now into paradise where there will be no more sorrow, no more weeping or pain, but only peace and joy with Jesus your Son, and the Holy Spirit forever and ever.
May God hold Donald in the palm of His hand. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. My deepest sympathy.

Don, I pray now for your family. Your job is done son. Thank you for what you and so many other brave American soldiers have done for our country. My oldest son is about to go on his 3rd tour in Iraq, and I'm heartbroken and sick from worrying. Please, watch over him for me. Again, I thank you. Thank you for making your family and your nation proud. So many punks join gangs and kill fellow Americans every day. They are a shame to their familys and to their nation. You are a hero. Now. And forever.

Spc. Donald Young and Family:

Know in your heart that you are a true hero and will never be forgotten. All gave some, some gave all. Rest in peace. You will be missed by everyone’s life you have touched.

To the family, as the days and weeks pass, and as you return to life’s routine, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family, friends, and all Americans for the sacrifice of one of your family members for our freedom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. May you find comfort in the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father.
