I'll always remember and miss you, Don. Though, I didn't get the chance to meet you face to face, I still considered you a good friend. I wish I could turn back the hands of time. So, that way I could have at least met you during that brief moment you were in Chicago (in the airport). I wish I could have been a better friend (and pen pal) to you. I saved the letters you sent me. I wish I hadn't let things prevent me from sending as much letters as I wanted to. I wish I had thought way ahead of time (before my comp wigged out) to save the conversations we had via instant messenger. I'll cherish the conversations we had on the phone. I wish I had the guts much sooner than now, to do the bit of digging I did, to find out that you had passed away. You died much to soon.. I had wished for you to live a long life filled with happiness.
I wish I had told you that I respected you for fighting for all of us US citizens. You died a hero.

To the family of Spc. Donald M. Young:

Yesterday was a day of rememberance for all the soldiers alive and fallen. I hope all had a thoughtful Memorial Day.

As a Viet Nam vet, and Native Montanan (American Indian), I send my condolences to family and friends of Donald. With heartfelt thanks to you and your family for having a son that served.

Young was my battle buddy in basic. You get to know a person pretty well when you sleep 3 feet away from each other for 3 1/2 months. Not only that, but we were sent to the same company when we arrived to Texas. I learned that Donald was a good kid when I first met him, and over the 2 1/2 year period after I saw him mature into a good man. I saw you that afternoon for the first time in months, you heading to the motorpool for patrol, me coming back from it... I'm just glad I got a chance to say hello. We miss you brother.

On 9 August, I was on the C-130 "Angel Flight" from Baghdad to Kuwait carrying the body of Spc Young. It was an honor and privelege to accompany him and to be part of the ceremony as his body was taken from the plane in Kuwait. It is something I will never forget. Upon my return home I asked my family to pray for his family and friends, and I send my deepest condolences as well.

Dear ones, My heartfelt condolences to the family & friends of Spc. Donald Young. I saw that he lived in California Mo. We just live up the road about 8miles and know what a loss this is. I lost my son LCpl. Leon B. Deraps, 5-6-06 KIA Al Anbar Providence in Iraq. God bless you he was a true American Hero. Please feel free to contact me.

Oh Donnie, Donnie, Donnie! You grew to be such a fine young man! I'll hold my last memory of you forever... You and Cheryl seemed so happily married if only for a short while. Please, rest in peace, dear Donald.

SPC. Young, As your roommate and brother in arms I will miss you dearly. The whole platoon will miss you. My prayers go to your family. I miss you man. You will always be remembered and with us.

I remember Donald very well from school. He found ways to make anyone and everyone laugh. He was goofy, fun, and carefree. He died doing something very courageous and strong. Not many people can say that. He made an impression in my heart and I will always remember him. He will be in my prayers along with his family members.

My heart aches for your loss. I did not know Donald, but he is a true hero who so sacrificed for his country. We all owe him a debt of gratitude. May God Bless him and your entire family.

Donald,
You were one of my best friends ever. You always knew how to make me laugh, when I wanted to cry. You always knew what to say in times of need, and now it's hard to realize taht you're gone. You'll always be in my heart for as long as I live, and then some!

I went to school with Donald, starting in 6th grade. He was a sweet, caring young man, and had a lot of energy and spunk. He was always very nice to me and was quite a goofball in class. I was heartbroken when I heard of his untimely death. I know he will be missed by all, and even though his smile no longer lights up this earth, I know that he's looking down from heaven, smiling down upon all of us. My prayers go out to Donald's family, as does my respect and honor for Donald for sacrificing himself for our country. RIP Donald Michael Leon Young. You will be missed.

Donald was like a brother to me he was always there when something was up and he know about it. Donald touched alot of lives and he will be miss dearly. Donald we all love you and will miss you.

I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.

I will always remember being at my grandparents house in montana for the summer and donald being there, he was always in the big dirt pile out by the house, he was always curious, and always outside. I miss him, and i wish he could have meet his cousin bubba, i think he would have liked him alot. He will be terribly missed in our family.

For My Brother,
Donald was a hero long before he entered the army, he always had to save the day. I was the youngest of all the sibilings, and for the most part the weakest and he was always there to protect me,to give me guidence, he was my rock. He was born a hero and he died a hero. Bubb you will be with me for always!!! And I will stay strong, for you.

Although we didn't get to spend as much time together as we should have..you will be missed cousin!! We had a great time at thanksgiving a few years back, my Dad (Stan Cleary) Sends his love to the family, and our thoughts and prayers are with everyone!!

Donald, I will never forget you. We have so many memories that to write them down would take years. You were the best little brother in the whole world and you was loved by so many. I know you felt heart ache and I wish I could have been in Baghdad to make you feel better, but I know that you left us to do something greater than we can imagine. When you died, a huge part of me died with you. Wherever you are I will always love you. You are a big part of my heart and I will never forget you.

When i think about Donald, I think about all of the good times him and I shared. The times where I thought I was gunna die from laughing. I love him so much, and will always for the rest of my life!

We knew Donald "Mikey" when he was a young boy. He was the most energetic, curious little guy we had ever seen. As he grew into a young man, he made a decision to enlist in the Army. What an honorable thing to do, serving your country. We were so proud of Mikey's accomplishments, as he helped to protect America. We grieve for his Dad, Mom (Donna), Sister (Shelly), and others that were close to him. Our prayers are with you.

I know how you feel losing a "HERO",Becoming a "Gold Star" Mother myself on 25 March.. The sacrafice our sons and daughters are making on a daily basis should tell us all..These young HEROS knew full well what they were doing and did it proudly When you hug your loved ones tonight.... Remember... We also hugged ours and now they are protecting you..We.. as Americans need to make the "Ultimate Sacrafice" by supporting all our military(HEROS)...the Proud Mom of SGT. Jason W. Swiger
