Never forgotten. As a busboy asking me never-ending questions about the Corps and being a Warren Cop. I was in 3/8 long before he was in 1/8. But my heart is always with my 8th Marine Brother. Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and to also let the Marku Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one, Gentian Marku US Marine Corporal. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Gentian, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

As Memorial Day approaches, I look around and try to remember all of those servicemembers who gave up everything for our freedoms. It's a small world I suppose. I'm currently serving in the United States Marine Corps and my mother just so happens to be working with Gentian's father. My mother invited both parents to church today for the Memorial Day service and I'm very happy to hear that. To his parents and all those who knew him-my deepest condolences to you and what a fine young man you raised. Men like this aren't born everyday and I'm thankful for his courage and strength while on earth. This is to Gentian, A Marine, A True Hero..

To the Family of Cpl. Gentian Marku:
I never had the pleasure of meeting your son but he has forever impacted our family. My son was fighting by Gentian's side the day he was killed. He shared with us that he had the opportunity to speak with Gentian in those last moments and provide comfort to him. Gentian fought and died with courage.
Every year, on Memorial Day, we honor Gentian's sacrifice at our church. Often we play a song called, "I Can Only Imagine." My son said that Gentian liked that song as did another of his friends whom we honor, PFC Tim Creager, who died on 7/1/04 in Anbar Province.
Gentian was a true hero!

Dear Gentian --- We have come to know you well and wish with all our hearts we had come to know you before you left this earth instead of after your death.
Nonetheless it is an honor to know you at all. You were, and we believe continue to be, an exceptional man, exceptional son, brother and friend, exceptional Marine and brother to your fellow Marines, exceptional Albanian and American.
You are truly missed by all of those who love you, and also by those of us who never met you.
We know you are at peace and ask that you bring that peace to your family, friends and brother Marines and Sailors.

"Thanksgiving will NEVER be the same for me. The 25th, 26th and 27th of 2003 were very difficult days for us all. The hug Gentian and I shared the day before he was killed was because we had just shared communion together and he was weeping over the loss of Brown and Gavriel. I would like to add to that a story of Gentian if you don't mind.
I remember the light on his face when he was a young PFC on our first deployment with the 26th MEU. He served as the translator for the Battalion Commander (LtCol David Hough) and the MEU CO (COL Frick) when we went to Albania and did some training with their military. He was so proud to tell the CO all about his mother land. His shoulders were back and his walk was strong as he followed him around and translated in his mother tongue. He was a true Albanian through and through and I'll never forget when I asked him where he would rather be, in the US or back in Albania. He told me that he was a Marine first and foremost. I had this conversation one evening while he was out at ASP Wolfe. He was on guard duty and I had the chance to talk to him for a bit. We had several of those kind of conversations. We talked about faith and we talked about women and we talked about service. I never walked away from them without learning something. He was prepared for heaven and helped other Marines around him to be ready as well. I will miss my friend Gentian and can't wait until we can have more conversations when I get to heaven. I know he'll give me another hug on that day."

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

To the Family of Cpl. Gentian Marku:
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

It's wonderful that a young man coming from another country appreciated his new home and felt the need to protect her from the enemy. I'm happy for you that he turned his life around and became a respected U.S. citizen. He is a fine example for other young kids. I'm sorry his life was cut short, for he could have helped other kids in trouble and teach them that they also could have turned their lives around. You should be very proud of the fine young man you raised. I am!
