LECOMPTON ~Marvin Herman Kahle, 80, Lecompton, died Monday, Oct. 27, 2003, at The Arbor at Brandon Woods in Lawrence. He was born May 12, 1923, in Alta Vista, to Herman Casper Kahle and Ada Belle Alexander. Mr. Kahle worked as a farmer and a mechanic in the Alta Vista and Council Grove area. He moved to Topeka in 1950 and worked as a mechanic before owning and operating Marvin H. Kahle Excavating for close to 30 years, working in and around the Lawrence area. He retired in the 1980s. He was an active member at Big Springs United Methodist Church, serving on the board at one time. He and his wife used to love living in Texas and Arizona during the winter months. He married Ruth LaVerne Tally on May 27, 1945, in Alta Vista. She passed away on Aug. 13, 2002. He also was preceded in death by a son, Marvin Eugene Kahle. Survivors include four sons, Richard L. Kahle, Lawrence, Gary L. Kahle, Topeka, Gale D. Kahle, Osage City, and Randall D. Kahle, Lecompton; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Verna Smith, Lawrence. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Big Springs United Methodist Church in Big Springs. Burial will be in Eastview Cemetery in Big Springs. Mr. Kahle will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel after 2 p.m. today, where family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Springs United Methodist Church, Route 1, Big Springs, Kan., 66050. Even though I only met Marvin once, my thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Kahle family, especially Randy and Anne during this difficult time. God bless you all and may you find peace and comfort in His word.
