Peter Hernandez Obituary

August 1, 1933 - November 12, 2014
Peter G. Hernandez, Sr. went to be with the Lord on November 12, 2014 in San Antonio, TX. He was born on August 1, 1933 in Brownsville, TX. After graduating from Brownsville High School in 1952, he attended Texas Western College on a music scholarship and earned a Bachelor's degree in Music in 1956 and also met and married the love of his life, Anna P. Hernandez. Upon returning to Brownsville, TX, he began work in the public school system where he became a highly respected band director and teacher. He later moved to Kingsville, TX with his wife and 3 children where he sold life insurance and also attended evening classes at Texas A & I University where he earned a Master of Science degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1979. He then moved his family to San Antonio, TX and established a successful career in real estate and became affectionately known as "The Friendly Realtor". Even during the busiest days of his life, he always set aside precious time to be with his family or went out of his way to help someone in need. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, chess player, sports enthusiast, and devoted family man, but most importantly a man of God who lived his life to its fullest. After becoming a grandfather, he treasured every moment of time with his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to show them how much they were loved and adored. His legacy of selflessness and infusing humor into conversations will always be remembered by his family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andres M. and Herminia C. Hernandez; half-brothers, Clarence Howard, Ben C. Hernandez, and Andrew M. Hernandez; and brother, Jose H. Hernandez. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Anna P. Hernandez; sons, Peter G. Hernandez, Jr. and wife, Deborah Hernandez, Christopher A. Hernandez and wife, Rayenna Hernandez; daughter, Cecilia A. Maley and husband, Wallace Maley; grandchildren, Michael Heggem, Ayrealle Hernandez, Raustin Hernandez, Taylour Hernandez, Joshua Hernandez, Caleb Hernandez; great-grandson, Charles Hernandez; brother, Robert C. Hernandez and sister-in-law, Ruth Hernandez; sister, Hermelinda Zuniga and brother-in-law, Baldemar Zuniga; sister-in-law, Hercilia Hernandez; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation services will be held at Castle Ridge Mortuary in San Antonio, TX on Thursday November 20, 2014 from 5:30-7pm followed by a rosary from 7-8pm. A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Friday November 21, 2014 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in San Antonio, TX followed by interment at Resurrection Cemetery.
