Joan Sauer Bertaut, 72, of New Orleans, Louisiana, passed away on September 28, 2025.

Born in Washington, D.C., Joan moved with her family to Jackson, Mississippi, and went on to earn three college degrees with distinction before finding her life's calling as a Certified Public Accountant. She loved all things culinary — from cooking to exploring new restaurants — and had a lifelong passion for travel, always eager to experience new places and cultures. Joan also had a special affection for dogs, whose companionship brought her great joy throughout her life.

Joan was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where her compassion and sense of community were reflected in her faith and actions. Guided by her beliefs, Joan shared her love through quiet generosity and compassion. Her acts of kindness were frequent but humble, given never for recognition but from a sincere heart. The world has lost a truly humane soul and a dear friend to all who knew her.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents George Sauer and Marjorie Sauer.
She is survived by her husband of thirty-five years, Tom Bertaut of New Orleans; her son, Bradford Walker and his wife Catherine Walker of New Orleans; her daughter, Katherine Bertaut of New Orleans; and her twin brother, Bob Sauer and his wife Betty Sauer of Ridgeland, Mississippi. A private memorial service will be held in New Orleans at a later date.

May her gentle spirit and boundless kindness continue to inspire all whose lives she touched.
