Natalie Buzzell Vogler, 90, currently of Adamstown, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Buckingham’s Choice retirement community.
Born on September 18, 1932, Natalie grew up in Oakland, Maine. She was the daughter of the late Ronald and Thena (Sullivan) Gilbert. Natalie raised her family in Silver Spring and Mount Airy, Maryland, before moving to Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and eventually to warmer weather in Ocala, Florida. Natalie was passionate about physical activity and greatly enjoyed swimming and biking, but her truest enjoyment came from running, which she took up in her early forties. She quickly excelled at road racing, winning numerous awards as a masters runner. She competed in the Boston Marathon, won her age group in the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile Race multiple times, and finished the Marine Corps Marathon in 3 hours and 11 minutes at age 47.
She is survived by her children, David H. Buzzell and wife Allyn, Debra B. Gritt and husband Thomas, and Mark G. Buzzell and wife Barbara; sister, Sherry Gilbert; grandchildren, Randy Buzzell Stockbridge, Emily Buzzell, Bethany Buzzell, Zachary Buzzell, Caitlin Gritt, Keri Gritt, and Patrick Gritt; and great-grandchildren, Sharon Stockbridge, Conrad Buzzell, and Henry Karpowicz.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Max Vogler; former husband, Harold O. Buzzell; son, Randal A. Buzzell; and three of her siblings, Kay Bacon, Beverly Baird, and Terry Gilbert.
A memorial service and inurnment will be held in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, this summer.
