Chun Sze's Obituary

Chun Sze Mak, beloved husband of Kwan Ying Yip Mak, loving father of Kevin (Annie), Rachel (David), Jamie (Yongkuk), dear grandfather of Tiffany Hunter, Jonathan, Jennifer, Frances, Judy, Lina, and Michael, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025.

Relatives, friends, and members of the Mark Family Association are invited to his Viewing on Thursday, July 17th, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am at Holy Redeemer Chinese Catholic Church on 915 Vine St. in Philadelphia, PA, followed by Interment at Valley Forge Memorial Gardens in King of Prussia, PA.

In 1973, Chun Sze came with his family from Hong Kong to Philadelphia Chinatown where he and his family opened the Three Treasures Gift Shop, starting their legacy in the community. He was an involved and beloved member of the Chinatown community known for his infectious smile and welcoming presence. He knew local business members and mailmen by name greeting them as he went about his day. He was also the former president of the Mark Family Association where he helped grow the organization and promote community wellbeing. As an active member of the community, he was a neighborhood cornerstone.

Some of his favorite activities included waking up at 6:00 am to head to the local bakery to have coffee with his friends and read the newspaper. As a grandfather, he loved taking his grandchildren to the McDonald's playground while he enjoyed pancakes and coffee with his wife. He would entertain his grandkids by taking them to see the fish at the pet store in South Philly. He loved to pick up his grandkids after school and bring them Chinese takeout or Bobby Chez's crab cakes for dinner, sometimes as a surprise! Food was one of his love languages as he consistently bought fresh bakery buns for his grandchildren every weekend, especially hot bo lo bao (pineapple bun), which he very happily enjoyed on his last day as well from his daughter.
