Bro. Howard Joseph Allen III, lovingly known as “Sonny,” was born on August 10, 1964, in New Orleans, Louisiana to Evelyn Allen and the late Howard Allen Jr. He was the eldest of five children, a role he embraced with love and quiet strength. On June 28, 2025, at the age of 60, Bro. Howard peacefully transitioned to his Heavenly Home. He was welcomed there by his father Howard Allen Jr., his sister Sabrina Allen, his beloved grandparents, and his significant other Joyce.
Growing up, Sonny treasured the simple joys of life. He loved spending time in Mississippi with family — riding horses, finishing his duties on the farm, then cooling off at the swimming hole where everyone learned to swim together and share stories under the sun. These moments, surrounded by elders and cousins, taught him not just how to do things with his hands, but how to live with heart.
Sonny dedicated many years of service to the Jefferson Parish Water Department and the City of Kenner/Veolia Water. He was known for his willingness to lend a hand, share a laugh, and offer words of encouragement to those around him. Though he was a quiet man in his faith, Howard professed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and lived a life that reflected love, family, and community.
Above all, Howard loved deeply — his children and grandchildren were his greatest pride and joy. He made time for family, offered help to neighbors, and embraced life with a humble spirit and a ready smile.
He leaves behind his loving mother Evelyn Allen; his children Taralyn, Ravon, and Howard; his siblings Joseph Allen (Nicole), Denise A. James (Shawn J.), and Paula Allen; eight adoring grandchildren; one cherished great-granddaughter; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him deeply but carry his memory in their hearts forever.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Funeral Service at Rising Star Baptist Church, 1357 S. Laurel St., Metairie, LA, on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at 10:00 am. Visitation begins at 9:00 am. Interment: Shady Grove Cemetery, 5570 Hwy. 584, Liberty, MS. Pastor David Jenkins officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Dennis Funeral Home, 1812 Louisiana Ave. New Orleans, LA 70115.
