Tommy Lee Reed, 64, took his final breath on February 21, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family and friends at Covenant Hospital in Lubbock, Texas. Born on September 11, 1960, to Weldon and Maritta Reed, Tommy grew up in a loving home where he was taught the values of hard work, honesty, and integrity. From a young age, he developed a deep love for family and an undeniable passion for country music—two cornerstones that would shape his life. On January 31, 1980, Tommy married the love of his life, Jerri Lynn Blacklock, in Justiceburg, Texas. Together, they built a beautiful life in Garza County, first living in Justiceburg before settling in town to raise their two children, Will and Candi, closer to family and community. Tommy was a kind and gentle man, known for his warm spirit and unwavering dedication to his loved ones. His passion for music led him to play country tunes across the Southwestern United States, performing in numerous bands, including Weldon Reed’s Solid Country, Texas Class and Texas Mesquite, as well as freelancing for fellow musicians in need of a talented hand. A gifted instrumentalist, Tommy could play nearly anything—guitar, drums, steel guitar, bass guitar, fiddle, and harmonica. While he loved them all, the guitar held a special place in his heart. Though he performed alongside many great musicians, his favorite moments were those spent playing music with his father, Weldon. Tommy’s work ethic was unmatched. To provide for his family, he worked tirelessly, often seven days a week, yet never missed the moments that truly mattered. Whether coaching his kids’ baseball teams, helping with science fair projects, or lending a hand to a friend in need, Tommy was always there. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and an adoring grandfather—his family meant everything to him. A lifelong learner, Tommy had an insatiable curiosity and excelled in anything he put his mind to. He was a great listener, a safe place for his children and family to share their burdens, and a source of wisdom and encouragement. Despite his musical talents and many accomplishments, Tommy often said his greatest achievement was his family. Just days before his passing, he shared with a loved one that the true meaning of life is to have a good family—one that loves and cares for each other. And that is exactly what he built. Tommy’s legacy of love, kindness, and music will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jerri Reed of Justiceburg; his mother, Maritta Reed of Justiceburg; his sister, Meg Nelson of Justiceburg; his daughter, Candi Dawson and her husband, Chris, of Lubbock; his son, Will Reed and his wife, Tamara, of Post, Texas; and his six beloved grandchildren: Emma Dawson, Mason Reed, Makenna Dawson, Collin Reed, Kate’Lynn Reed, and Piper Dawson. Tommy was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed, but his music, his kindness, and his devotion to family will resonate for generations to come. Visitation & viewing for Tommy will be Feb. 25th, 5:00-6:00 p.m. at Hudman Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Feb. 26th, 2:00 p.m. at Justiceburg Community Church, 2511 US Hwy 84, Justiceburg, Tx. Interment will follow at Justiceburg Cemetery.
