Dean Jones Obituary

DEAN CHARLES JONES
1935 – 2015

Dean Jones lost his battle with lung cancer on June 5, 2015. He passed away peacefully, at home, with his wife of fifty-six years, Lenore, by his side. We have lost a devoted husband, father, brother and friend to all those who knew him. Dean grew up in gold mining communities and treasured his memories of an often difficult but great life in the outdoors hunting, fishing and dancing up a storm. He loved a party. Dean`s career was always focused on policing and crime prevention. He obtained an HBA from Lakehead University and an MA in criminology, with an emphasis on research, from the University of Ottawa. His career spanned forty-two years, having been with the Ontario Provincial Police, 16 District for fourteen years, twenty-two years as a civilian member of the RCMP in Ottawa and six years with the Ministry of Corrections Research Branch in Ottawa. In his younger years, Dean was very athletic, playing senior hockey, fastball and was an avid curler. While with the O.P.P. in Nipigon, he coached youth hockey and fastball. Dean was an accomplished portrait artist and a life-long member of the Nipigon-Red Rock Masonic Lodge. Dean leaves behind his wife Lenore nee Boyd, son Bruce Jones of Winchester, son Brian Jones and daughter-in-law Rachel Bériault of Gatineau, QC, his chosen brother Tom Roberts of Saint John, New Brunswick, niece Willow Drager of Red Lake, Ont., and niece Carmen Kellar of Dryden, Ont. Dean was pre-deceased by his first wife Agnes nee Kwasnycia of Red Lake, Ont., his parents, Hugh (Zip) and Lorrine (Larry) Jones of Red Lake, Ont, his sister Delina Toffanello of Balmertown, Ont and his granddaughter Ashley Lacourse Jones. The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to staff at the Ottawa Cancer Clinic, Dr. Stewart and Dr. Lochrin for their excellent care, and staff of the Ottawa Hospital, General and Civic campus. Also, a sincere thank you to our neighbourhood friends for their kindness and support to Dean and family during his illness and passing. A celebration of Dean`s life will be held at a later date.
