Uncle Gabby was always my favorite Uncle. I would always be very exited when he would come and visit when I was a little kid. He was truly a person who lived his life the way he wanted to - and not the way others or society thought he should live his life (Think “My Way” by Frank Sinatra). Even as a young child I could easily detect this aspect about Uncle Gabby. He was different from all the other grown ups. When I grew up, I would always go out of my way to visit him during my many, many visits to LA. I had many blood relatives in LA but he was the only one I went out of my way to connect with during my many LA trips (Apologies to my other relatives!). We ate at some of the absolute best places in LA. He shared with me many stories about his life. Some of my favorite stories included stories about Hollywood, the Yakuza and growing up in Little Tokyo. My most recent trip to LA was for the 2020 Rose Bowl (Go Ducks!). We went out to eat at a place that allegedly had the best soba in all of LA. It was amazing! It was a short trip as I was only in town for the game. But no trip to LA would be complete without a visit to Uncle Gabby. My last memory of Uncle Gabby is seeing him wave goodbye standing outside his little house in Gardena surrounded by the wild cats that he fed everyday. RIP Uncle Gabby. My favorite actor of All-Time.
