I don't know any of your family, Officer Hance, I didn't even know you, but you touched my heart with your lighthearted dance during a gay pride parade. May you rest in peace and may your family, friends, loved ones, and acquaintances find the resilience, strength, and peace necessary to carry them through this darkest of times. Very saddened to hear about Michael's passing. I used to own a smoke shop in the king kullen shopping center on Stewart avenue and Michael would hang out with me and my brother all the time. What a great funny man

Like many others here, I did not know Officer Hance , but I was deeply touched by a video of him which showed a man of great compassion and warmth. I wanted to thank him for that and for his courageous service to the City, and express my sympathy to his family.

I never knew Officer Michael J. Hance. I learned of him in the aftermath of his merriment at the Heritage of Pride parade. Clearly, a fun-loving man, his gesture meant so much to a sometimes marginalized community. I had no idea that Michael became mortally ill as a result of his selfless service on the September 11th pile. It saddened me to learn of his battle and demise. A little bit of sunlight set when Michael closed his eyes. Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

A year or so ago, I had seen the video of Michael dancing at the parade. This evening, I read the article detailing a bit about his life, his career and his recent death. I was unexpectedly overcome with emotion and a great sense of loss. Men like Michael restore our faith in humanity and simply make this world a better place in which to live. A great light has gone out. My condolences.
