Tucker McCarty Obituary
Tucker Obie McCarty, 21, of St. Augustine, died unexpectedly as a result of an automobile accident on April 2, 2011, just south of Ft. White in Columbia County, Florida.
Born in Brandon, Fla., on Feb. 27, 1990, he was the eldest son of Anthony Obie McCarty and Delaine Phillips McCarty of St. Augustine. He had lived most of his life in St. Augustine, graduating from Pedro Menendez High School in 2008.
Tucker was enrolled at the University of Florida and he was studying to be a pharmacist. This was not surprising since he could interact with older folks and children alike. Tucker was polite, kind, and a joy to be around. He was the type of kid with whom you would want your children to hang out. Tucker was also a gentleman in action and deed, and was never afraid to show his wonderful sense of humor and bright smile. He was an avid fisherman and a Florida Gator. Those he leaves behind, his loving family and many friends, will never forget the impact he made on each of our lives.
He is survived by his parents, Anthony Obie and Delaine McCarty of St. Augustine; a brother, Cole Philip McCarty of Gainesville; maternal grandparents, Frank and Jackie Phillips of St. Augustine; paternal grandmother, Betty Jo McCarty of St. Augustine; Aunt Sherri Moore and her husband, Kim, of Winter Springs, Fla.; Uncle Larry McCarty and his wife, Robin, of Ft. Bragg, N.C.; Aunt Lisa Stratton and her husband, Johnny; Aunt Lori Cofield and her husband, Sterling; and Aunt Linda Broussard, all of St. Augustine; and Uncle Ervin McCarty of Green Cove Springs, Fla. Additional survivors include cousins, a host of fishing buddies and the best catch of his life, Jessi Sawl.
Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 7, at Anastasia Baptist Church, with Rev. Larry McCarty and Rev. Ron Moore officiating. Interment will follow at Craig Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6, at St. Johns Family Funeral Home. Flowers are gratefully declined and those wishing may make a contribution in his memory to Young Life, P.O. Box 9012, St. Augustine FL 32085
St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

I lived down the street from Tucker for all 11 years of my life. He was courteous, and never teased me if I did something stupid like the average college guy. He helped me if
I was hurt, and was a true gentleman. I will always miss him, but remember, Tucker is catching fish for the party in the sky. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Begotten son, and whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16. Our hearts were broken when we heard the tragic news about Tucker. There are no words to express our heartache and sadness, but please know that our hearts and prayers are with you and Tucker. I was blessed to have coached this great young man on the PMHS Basketball Team. Tucker was one of a kind, the kind of team athlete that just was a pleasure to coach. I knew, along with his teammates that every time Tucker stepped on the court that he was there to give 110%. Tucker was the type of player that was a true leader and always put the team first. This was just the type of person he was on and off the court! Tucker's attitude during practice and game time was nothing short of fantastic; always wanting to better himself and most of all, make his teammates around him the best that they can be. A TRUE TEAM PLAYER!!!!! Any coach in any sport that could have the chance to coach a strong, courageous, and team oriented young man to the likes of Tucker McCarty, can say they have been truly blessed and made a better coach because of this young man, like I can! Tucker will be truly missed, but never forgotten because of type of gentleman he was!

Tucker was always the class clown. He always had the slick words to say to make anyones day turn into a good one, and i was blessed to enjoy that 7-12 grade. He will truely be missed. To the McCarty Family our deepest condolence go out to you. We were fortunate to spend time with Tucker the weekend before his accident. Henry, myself, Tucker and Gene sat on the back deck at the Elbow and enjoyed a beautiful day watching the fishermen coming and going. We talked about school and everything else. He was upbeat about everything except wearing a shirt and tie everyday to class.Ugh! Looking back now, we are thankful that we had this opportunity to be with him one last time. We are just heartbroken and want the family to know that we thought he was a great young man!
