Wendy Tinklepaugh-Soloway Obituary

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Dr. Wendy Tinklepaugh-Soloway, M.D., 65, a long-time resident of Amherst, died March 20, 2008.

Dr. Tinklepaugh, or "Dr. T" as she was known by her patients, was born in New York City Aug. 25, 1942.

An avid equestrian, she was whipper-in for the Suncook Valley Hounds. She followed her mother, Ruth, and older sister, Ann, to Wellesley College, where she met her future husband, Nick. A gifted classical singer, she was a soloist for the Wellesley College Choir.

After graduating from Wellesley College in 1964, she pursued her goal of becoming a medical doctor, graduating from Albany Medical College in 1968. After completing internship, residency and fellowship training at Roosevelt Hospital, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, and Memorial Hospital in New York City, she and her husband moved to southern New Hampshire where she founded and ran a number of free well-baby clinics serving low-income families in southern New Hampshire.

She also worked part-time in private practice. She was a board-certified Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, listed in the Guide to America's Top Pediatricians, and honored to be included in Who's Who of American Women.

She was active in many community organizations involving child and family health issues, performing arts and education, and served as a board member and officer of several organizations.

She retired from active practice in 1999, and she and her husband moved to Tucson in 2001. Family members include her husband, Nick, of 40 years; a daughter, Princess Robin Starbuck Soloway Farmanfarmaian of San Francisco, Calif.; a son, Christopher Michael Soloway of Wyandotte, Mich.; a sister, Ann Jupp of St. James, N.Y.; friends and extended family.

IN HER LIFE: Among her family members were two nieces, Avril Coakley of Ruidoso, N.M., and Margreit McInnis of Bellmore, N.Y. Despite a six and one-half year battle with breast cancer and Valley Fever, Wendy never lost her optimism or sense of humor. She passed away March 20, 2008, just a few weeks before the birth of her first grandchild, Nicholas, to her son, Christopher, and his wife, Kate. Nicholas was born on her daughter Robin's birthday, which was also Wendy's late father's birthday. Wendy touched many lives and will be missed.

SERVICES: A celebration of Wendy's life is Sept. 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Faculty Club at Wellesley College. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5501 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, Texas 75244, or on the Web site, www.komen.org, or by phone at 1-877-465-6636.

Nick, Robin and Christopher -- I am so very sorry for your loss. I was shocked to see Wendy's passing marked in the NH Sunday News on the 7th of September. She was always a wonderful friend to my mother, Mimi, and to all of my family. She will be greatly missed.
Love to you all,
Ginger

My sincere condolences to Wendy's family. Notice of her passing was just forwarded to me by a friend. I am a nurse who worked with her many years ago, during the time when she worked part time with Dr Gene Lariviere. She was a most beloved person to her patients, their moms, and especially to me. She was a shining star - always upbeat, caring, and going that extra mile - she was the epitome' of what a Pediatrician (and friend) should be. I know she will be greatly missed.
