Irene A. Waack, 95, of Good Samaritan Home and formerly of 517 Monroe, Quincy, died at 4:18 a.m. Sunday (May 3, 2015) at Blessing Hospital.
Irene was born Jan. 11, 1920, in Quincy, the daughter of Gustav and Mabel Westenfeld Kelle. She married Fred F. Waack on Feb. 24, 1944, at St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Quincy. He died Aug. 5, 1990. She was a lifelong member of Trinity United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Women's Guild having served as president. Irene was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and charter member of the Fireside Club. Irene was a volunteer at Blessing Hospital and was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Mrs. Waack was a 1938 graduate of Quincy High School. She was employed by Moorman Manufacturing Company and in her later years at the House of Friendship in Quincy. Survivors include her son, Dale (Evelyn) Waack of Waterloo, Iowa; her daughter, Judy (Terry) McCallum of Fenton, Mo.; four grandchildren, Amy (Greg) Tilley of Plainfield, Douglas Waack of Odessa, Fla., Brenna (Ryan) Thompson of Golden Valley, Minn., and Lyle McCallum of Fenton; a great-grandchild, Jessica Stewart of Plainfield; a sister, Nadine Thomas of East Moline; and many loving nieces. In addition to her husband, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Earl Kelle; and a brother-in-law, George Thomas. SERVICES: 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, at Trinity United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Timothy A. White officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
