Serena Layoun, 54; attorney, volunteer and advocate for children

July 4 (UNION-TRIBUNE)
Whether it was advocating for abused and neglected children, teaching adults to read or staging a sit-in to establish a day care center at a college campus, Serena Layoun tried to make the world a better place.

Ms. Layoun, a lawyer with the Child Advocacy Unit of the San Diego County Public Defender's Office, was known as a bright attorney who was passionate about doing what was best for children.
