Kolby Lankford Obituary

Sept. 1, 1977 - March 10, 2009

Kolby Dale Lankford, 31, of Vacaville, Calif., died on Tuesday, March 10, in Truckee, Calif., unexpectedly.

Kolby was born on Sept. 1, 1977 in Elk City, Okla., and raised with his sister, Crystal, and brother, Kris, by loving parents, Arnold and Donna Lankford. Kolby met the love of his life, Ashley Davis, while she was attending Oklahoma State University. Kolby and Ashley wed in a beautiful ceremony in Oklahoma City on Oct. 22, 2005. Kolby and Ashley moved to Ashley's hometown of Vacaville, Calif., in the summer of 2005. At the time of his passing, Kolby was employed by CHW in Sacramento as a sleep lab technician. Kolby and Ashley made their home in Vacaville and were anxiously awaiting the birth of their first child. Kolby was an athletic individual whose passion for baseball began in childhood and continued his whole life. Kolby especially loved snowboarding and spent a lot of his time in Lake Tahoe enjoying the ambiance of the mountains, the lake and the snow. Although born and raised in Oklahoma, Kolby often said that he had found his true home on the West Coast. Kolby lived life to the fullest. Kolby was a quiet, deep thinking man, who though somewhat of a perfectionist, was loving and so very accepting of all others. Kolby valued health and fitness and lived his life accordingly. His posthumous donation of his young and healthy organs/tissues is estimated to save or otherwise benefit sixty individuals.

Kolby is survived by: his loving wife, Ashley, and unborn daughter, Claire of Vacaville, Calif.; his parents Arnold and Donna Lankford of Elk City, Okla.; grandmother Elwanda McComas of Elk City, Okla.; grandmother Wanda Lankford of Altus, Okla.; sister Crystal Bailey (Chuck) of Edmond, Okla.; brother Kris Lankford (Megan) of Yorkville, Ill.; nephew Burke Bailey; niece Brylee Bailey, unborn nephew Kayden Kolby Lankford; father and mother-in-law Greg and Kelly Alexander of Vacaville Calif.; father and mother-in-law Allen and Susan Davis of Kettering, Ohio; brothers-in-law, Jack and August Alexander; grand parents-in-law Joseph and Shirley Foti; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, many friends and his beloved cat, Annie. Grandfathers Bill McComas and L.S. Lankford predeceased Kolby.

A memorial service to celebrate Kolby's life will be held today, Friday, March 13, at 4 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church located at 1791 Marshall Road, Vacaville. A reception at the church hall will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation to The Claire Lankford Fund, C/O Ashley Lankford, Bank of the West, 330 Davis St., Vacaville, Calif., 95688.

The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of physicians and nurses at Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee, Calif., for their very compassionate care and kindness. The family also wishes to express their profound gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love and support received from extended family, friends, and students, parents, staff and volunteers at Notre Dame Parochial School in Vacaville.

Hey Kolby,
I am just sitting and thinking of the day you came into this world. It was at 8am 32 years ago today. You were the most beautiful thing I had ever seen, althought I was very young and scared to death, I knew you were the best thing that had ever come into my life. As you grew up I always felt such pride for you. I know I may have sheltered you, thats what Moms do. My love for you can not be measured. You have made me so very proud over the years, such a good person. I wish you were here to celebrate this birthday. We are sending you Balloons later so be ready.
My life will never be the same without you. I think of you every minute of the day and dream of you at night. Your Dad and I called you a few times this morning, just to hear your sweet voice. Go reast HIGH on the mountain Kolby, I know God must have the greatest and highest of all for you. God needed a very special person to help him the day he took you. I'm sure you wouldn't want us sitting around crying and being sad about you leaving, and you would tell us how it isn't healthy, Kolby we miss you so much and love you so much. Wish i could make a deal with God to get you back but I know i can't. So until God comes for me I will love you and anxiously await seeing you and holding you in my arms again. Your my HERO sweetie.
All my Love forever end ever,
Mom

You were always so sweet and thoughful. I truly enjoyed spending time with you every time I had the chance. I miss you and think about you everyday. You will always be a precious person to me and will be forever. You were a lovely baby and always stayed the same to me. I was so proud of you when you graduated from highschool and college. Your wedding was wonderful and so very pretty. You are a very thoughtful, honest and sincere person. I will always remember you as my grandson. Love you very much,

I was there the day you were born. You were a beautiful baby! You were a precious little boy who liked to have his hands clean! One of my favorite memories with you was when we went to the Kansas State Fair. You had so much fun! You got a balloon that you held onto for the longest time.....we made it all the way back to the car; but you were just too tired.....you just "let it go" & said "bye-bye balloon" & got into your seat and fell asleep. I hope you know how much you were loved! Aunt Charline

Kolby...you are an amazing person, a legacy in all our eyes and hearts. You will be remembered for your one of a kind humor and your amazing kindness and love for others. It's been quite a while since we have seen each other...years actually, but I am grateful that I got to speak to you one last time only two weeks ago through an email. You were so excited to be a dad, and to tell me about your wonderful wife Ashley...I'm glad you found your soul mate and your dream of children came true...your journey was complete my friend, much love!!!
