Barbara Sanders Obituary
Mrs. Sanders died Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of Jesse William “Luke” Lucas and the late Eva Glawson Lucas. Mrs. Sanders graduated from A.C. Flora High School. She worked for many years in the business she and her family owned, Lucas Auto Service, before joining Crawford in his furniture and corporate relocation business, Furniture Services, Inc. In 2002, after working 16 years with her children and in-laws, she retired to Little River, S.C. Upon retirement, she remained active in the family business, served as a volunteer caregiver and enjoyed her extended and loving family and friends. She was previously a member of St. Michael and All Angels’ Episcopal Church and was a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in North Myrtle Beach.
Surviving are her husband, Crawford Ellerbe Sanders, III of Little River; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Julie Sanders of Charleston, Crawford “Ladd” Sanders of Greenville, and Knowlton “Rip” and Beth Bernstein Sanders of Columbia; daughter and son-in-law, Phoebe Sanders Mendez and David Mendez of New York City; eight grandchildren, Carly Sanders, Caroline Sanders, Ellerbe Mendez, Isabel Sanders, Alex Sanders, Collin Sanders, Addison Sanders and Sebastian Mendez.

Bobbie was my neighbor and friend to my also deceased wife Jane and lived next door in Hendley Homes on Rosewood Drive in Columbia about 1969. We loved her very much.

Dear Crawford and family,
I grew up with Bobbie from early elementary school and loved staying over at her house and going to the lake with her parents. They were always such fun. She was a bubbly girl and great friend for a long time. I moved upstate after HS and we lost touch. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. May God Bless.

Crawford, Mr. Lucas and family,
We have just in the past few years gotten to know Bobbie and your family. We think alot of you and have you in our thoughts and prayers. Bobbie was such a crackerjack and spit ball of fire. The short time I had watching Clemson football with her will be wonderful memories. I feel honored to have had that time.

I remember Bobbi so fondly. We saw each other on and off for a number of years. Most recently--two years ago--My family received a wonderful letter from her when our Mother passed away.
