Loretta Jewel Allen

Loretta (Jewel) Allen Jewel was born on May 3,1927, in DeKalb Il. She was the youngest child of Walter and Mary (Hester) Perkins. Jewel had an older brother (Harvey) and two older sisters, (Geneva and Onieda). Her sisters were her best friends and shopping companions. She married the love of her life, Robert E. Allen, on August 22,1947, in DeKalb Il. They were married 49 years until Robert's passing on April 19,1997.They had three sons, Terry, Wife Melissa, (Phoenix), Kent, (Florida), Kevin, wife Kathleen (Phoenix). Jewel has (10) Grand Children and (11) Great Grandchildren. Jewel was a working mother with a career in management. Even though she worked outside the home, she somehow found the time to do it all as a mother, cooking, cleaning, laundry for three active boys and a husband. After the family had grown up, Jewel and Robert (Bob) relocated to Phoenix in 1972 where her sister, Geneva had moved a few years earlier with her husband. Jewel went to work with Aetna Insurance and together they purchased a Dairy Queen. She would help wait on customers at the DQ on weekends. Dairy Queen became a family business, and at one time or another everyone in the family worked in the business and today, one of Jewels grandsons owns and operates the business. Jewel really loved her family and loved getting together with everyone. She loved to laugh and loved a good joke. She could tell stories for hours about her life experiences. At 97 years of age, we began to hear a few repeats, but no one ever stopped her from telling them again, she found great pleasure in telling them.
