James Mobley Obituary

James Steven Mobley (Steve), 73, passed away quietly at his home in Vestavia Hills on Wednesday, July 2nd, surrounded by his loving family.  He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Robin;  his two sons Michael and Chris (Babe) and his granddaughter Gray.  He is preceded in death by his parents Bobbye and Earl Mobley and Jimmy Jefferson.

Steve was raised in Birmingham, went to Glen Iris Grammar School, attended Berry High School and graduated from Auburn University. He then completed studies from the University of Alabama Law School and passed the Alabama Bar Exam while clerking for Senator Richard Shelby.  He left Alabama to create a highly valued land and exploration business out west in Denver, Victory Land and Exploration. This venture took him to Montana, where he met his wife, Robin. Montana remained a second home to him for the rest of his life and was his favorite place to vacation with his family. He then returned to his hometown to begin his law practice, and eventually started a private practice. He later transitioned into his third and final career as a real estate developer, mostly in Shelby County, where he was proudly from.

Steve was a devoted family man and the gravitational center for his extended family. He maintained several deeply loyal friendships which he kept his entire life.  He viewed them as brothers and sisters and considered them family. He will always be
remembered for his storytelling, his unique sense of humor, his love for Auburn football, his love for helping others and the love he had for his family(dogs included).

Steve will be deeply missed and remembered for generations to come.

I am so sorry to hear about Steve. I have not seen him in a while but considered him a great friend. I met Steve when he was a young lawyer. Got to know him really well when he and David Johnson, another great friend, became partners. God Bless Steve and his family. He will be missed by many. His Old Pal, Lauriello

Robin- this is Lee McPhearson. I was a law school classmate of Steve´s . We were pretty close during school . As often is the case, once school ends we tend not to stay in touch we people like we should. Several years after we finished school Steve and I hooked up again at Alabama Trial Lawyers Association seminars. I think he was working with David Cromwell Johnson then.Later we sorta drifted apart again when I went on the bench. I think somewhere during this time , Steve became very active developing commercial real estate or possibly residential neighborhoods. I think I may have met you at a 10 year law school classmate reunion . I ran into Steve a few years ago but I can´t recall the event. I remember he had lost most of that curly hair he had.Steve was a wonderful caring person and I know you and your boys will miss him. It wasn´t time for him to leave. I know you have a full plate but when you have time I would love to talk with you. My cell phone is 205-457-1137. My email is [email protected]
Somewhere in this obituary information it indicated that there would be a memorial service for Steve . My wife Gayle , who was so fond of Steve, and I would love to attend. If you could share info on the time and location, it would be appreciated. Prayers are lifted up

My family and the Gray family have been lifelong friends. We last saw Steve when his Aunt Joan passed and he had not changed a bit. He was still the friendly, kind , polite fellow he was as a kid. We will pray for the family as I am certain he will be greatly missed.
