James Cox Obituary

Dr. James M. Cox, 84, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday March 3, 2025, In his life, Jim sought faith and found it with Judi who inspired him to join the Catholic faith. Jim sought family and discovered what family could be with all its joys and sorrows with Judi and their children. Jim sought friendship and felt it with friends from childhood to his buddies in the St. Vincent's Knights of Columbus (with whom he'd been their Grand Knight, Funeral Ceremony director, caretaker of the cemetery and its cross, and more). Jim sought knowledge and purpose and found that in his beloved chiropractic profession. He passionately shared his love of all things spine as a chiropractic radiologist, a patent holder, an author of multiple textbooks/articles, a presenter at conferences, a developer of the Cox® Technic, a researcher who participated in NIH, HRSA federally funded projects that documented the science of chiropractic, and a chiropractic physician in his hometown community, a cherished role he missed upon retirement. Jim sought peace and often found it at his barn where he enjoyed mowing the grass, fishing in the pond, creating pens, bowls and cutting boards on his lathe, and even painting a hay wagon. He found joy in supporting causes like the Fort Wayne Children's Foundation, A Mother's Hope, St. Vincent de Paul Society, and others.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Judith Ann (Egts) Cox; his sister, Patty Lou Liggett; children, Julie Cox-Cid of Fort Wayne, Jill (Keith) Miller of Liberty Township OH, James M (Karen) Cox II of Fort Wayne, Jason Cox of Mooresville NC and eight grandchildren, Alex Harris, Emily Harris, Michael Cid, Evan Cox, Chloe Harris, Morgan Cox, Mac Cox, and Audrey Cox. Funeral Mass 11:00am Saturday, March 15, 2025 in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1502 E. Wallen Rd. with visitation from 10-11am in the church. Visitation also Friday 4-7pm at Divine Mercy Lake Avenue Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Ave. with the Rosary at 3:30pm. Burial in Catholic Cemetery. The family's preferred memorials are St. Vincent de Paul Society of Fort Wayne, or Community Harvest Food Bank. Julie and family. I am so sorry to here of James Cox's passing. On June 18 1994 Dr Cox asked me to give a presentaion at his San Francisco flexion-distraction seminar. In my presentation I reviewed successful results my patients had received using flexion distraction therapy. Dr Cox was so gracious and clearly proud being the developer of such an amazing effective treatment method. I love him and will miss him. Dr Ronald Miklebost

Jim was a remarkable man. He was my mentor and because of him I had the successful career that I had as a chiropractor. His light will continue to shine. I frequently share his quote "A lit candle loses nothing by lighting another one". My sincerest condolences to Judi, Julie and the rest of his family. We lost a great person, and heaven added an awesome angel.
