Gary W. Smith, 74, of Hannibal, MO, passed away at 5:02 AM, Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Hannibal Regional Hospital.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, July 26, 2025, at James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal, MO. Gary's services will be officiated by his sons-in-law, Mr. Scott London and Mr. Doug Fightmaster.
Friends and Family are invited to Gary 's Life Celebration at a visitation that will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, Saturday at the funeral home.
Gary was born July 22, 1950, in Hannibal, MO to Arnold Oglevee Smith and Stella Mae McCubbins Smith.
He was married to Bonnie Lynn Schwartzhoff on August 22, 1970. Gary and Bonnie were happily married for almost 55 years. She survives.
Other survivors include his four children, Bonnie Elizabeth London (Scott), Denise Maureen Fightmaster (Doug), Gary Wayne Smith (Kendra), and Brandy Lynn Hernandez (JD); three sisters, Sandra Mae Charlton, Vickie Elaine Smith, and Cathy Lynn Nicosia; ten grandchildren, Amber Michelle Cates (Brandon), Ryan Scott London (Rebekah), Tyler Douglas Fightmaster (Hannah), Haley Nicole Gayton (Justin), Makayla Lynn Preston (Noah), Kainen Wayne Smith, Kaden Lyle Smith, Braelynn Nicole Hernandez, Janessa Jaelynn Hernandez, and Cooper John Kasson Hernandez; seven great grandchildren, Jayden Michael London, Mackenzie Taylor Woodring, Gavin Ryan Cates, Mercy Grace London, Asher Ryan London, Micah Matthew London, and Ember Grace Gayton; and one expectant great grandchild, Baby Gayton.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Linda Kay Haynes, Karen Sue Haynes, and Janet Ann Smith; four brothers, Ronald Howdeshell, Steven Arnold Smith, Michael William Smith, and Robert Leo Smith; two half sisters, Kathryn Smith, and Lena Bell Smith; four half brothers, Arnold Leo Smith (Buzzy), John Clark Smith, Russell Ray Smith, and David Lee Smith; and two grandchildren, Austin Mae Lynn Acres-Walker and Colton Wayne Smith.
Gary was a self employed contractor specializing in siding, windows, and new home construction. Gary loved home building and constructed three homes for himself. His proudest achievement was the house he built in the mountains of Colorado.
Gary valued his time spent with family. Whether it was sitting at the riverfront with his wife, enjoying a glass of sweet tea at his sister Linda's home, going on road adventures with his brother Steve, having dinner with his sister Sue, sipping coffee outside with his kids, or taking trips to Estes Park, Colorado, he treasured these moments. His favorite vacation destination was Mexico, but he embraced any opportunity or location that brought the family together. Gary was also passionate about elk hunting in Meeker, Colorado, and had a keen appreciation for antiques. Gary enjoyed watching old John Wayne westerns and Fox News.
Gary was Christian by faith.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gary's grandsons: Ryan London, Tyler Fightmaster, Kainen Smith, Kaden Smith, and Cooper Hernandez.
In honor of his granddaughter, Austin Acres, memorial contributions may be made to Children's Hospital Colorado Foundation.
