Mary Sue Baker, 86, born January 25, 1939, in Scott County, VA passed peacefully into her heavenly rest on April 10, 2025. She was the daughter of Elder Charlie James Baker and Rosa Bell Whitaker Baker in Scott County, VA.

She was a member of Chestnut Flats Primitive Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Hiltons High School in Gate City, VA and Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, VA. After graduation, she began a career in business taking her first job at Dominion Bank. She earned many business endorsements and certifications. A highlight of her career was serving as Commissioner of the Revenue in Bristol, Virginia for 12 years.

Mary was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, served as worthy matron of Bell Walsh Chapter #65, Bristol Chapter #28, Grand Esther, and Grand Representative to South Carolina.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James Donald Baker; her parents; a grandson, Levi Richard Carter; and seven siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Donette Carter, husband, Richard, and their children, Noah Carter, and Chelsey Powell and husband, Zach; her son, Brad Baker, wife, Vanessa, their sons, William, and Ross Baker; as well as a brother, Tom Baker, and wife, Linda.

Committal services and entombment will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, at 1 p.m. in the Mountain View Mausoleum on Valley Drive, Bristol, Virginia with Elder Kevin Cross, Elder Oscar Irvin, and Pastor Coy Webb officiating.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Dennis Franklin, Gary Wingate, William "Peanut" Folkner, grandsons, and nephews.
