Jimmy Moore Obituary
Jimmy Moore
August 3, 1937 - June 22, 2025
Jimmy Lewis Moore of Bethlehem was called to his eternal home on June 22, 2025, after a period of declining health.
Jimmy was born August 3, 1937, to the late Lester and Stella Moore Herman. He attended St. Stephen's High School and received his GED from CVCC. As a teenager, he began working in a furniture factory and was determined to learn every step in the manufacturing process. He soon became a craftsman and went into business for himself. Through the years, he was instrumental in building three companies: Vanguard Furniture, Craftwork Guild, and Hancock & Moore. He also had ownership in a number of other companies, including Taylor King. Going to work each day was a blessing to him. He enjoyed interacting with his employees and loved seeing a piece of furniture complete and ready for shipment. One of his greatest manufacturing experiences was when Hancock & Moore was contracted to supply chairs for the White House, including the Oval Office and the US Cabinet.
Jimmy was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, where he served on the congregation council, served as a Boy Scout leader, and was involved in Cursillo.
He was active in the Republican Party and often worked the polls. He was honored to attend two presidential inaugurations. Locally, he served on the boards of CVCC, First Citizens Bank, and the Alexander County YMCA.
Jimmy's hobbies included bowling, going to yard sales, restoring old cars, and spending time with the family he cherished. He was devoted to his wife of 68 years and loved his four children deeply. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death was his wife, Shirley Cook Moore, a son, Randy Moore, a grandson, Jesse Moore, and brothers, Cloyd Moore, Charlie Moore, Jerry Moore, Danny Moore, and Roger Moore.
Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Susan (Craig) Sigmon and Julie Moore, both of Conover, a son, Andrew Moore of Bethlehem, a sister, Betty Overcash, of Hickory, a brother, John (Gloria) Moore of Conover, eight grandchildren, Benjamin (Miranda) Sigmon, Katie (Daniel) Herring, Betsy (Charles) Draper, Ashley and Keisha Moore, Tristan Moore, Kayla and Austin Moore, and ten great-grandchildren, Spencer, Camden, Evelyn, George, Hadley, Coleman, Elizabeth, Nyesha, R.J. and Carter.
Jimmy's family expresses much gratitude to Hospice and Jimmy's caregiver, Claudette Bolick, for the great care given to their loved one.
The family will receive friends at Wednesday, June 25, 2025 from 1 to 2:45 p.m. at Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. Funeral will follow at 3 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Deborah L. Frye and Rev. Craig Sigmon officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 4420 County Home Road, Conover, NC 28613 or to Carolina Caring (Hospice), 3975
