Sherri Wolfe Obituary

Sherri Wolfe passed away Friday, June 13 succumbing to cancer after a heroic 3 year battle. Sherri was born January 14, 1947 to Donald and Marvis Townsend in Pasadena, CA where she grew up. She was educated in the CA schools and attended San Diego State University and UCLA where she got her Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science.

A move to Juneau in 1983 led to meeting Ron Wolfe, the couple married in January 1985 and were blessed with two sons; Forrest and Hunter. Sherri was a devoted mother, helped at school and great sports enthusiast, especially for her son's teams. She will be remember for her exuberant, some may say loud, cheering at all games or even when Ron was refereeing football. She could be counted on to host Super Bowl, World Series, basketball or softball parties.

In Juneau, she worked for Department of Fish and Game in Douglas, the Energy Assistance program and finally the Limited Entry Fish Commission, where she retired in June 2013. At each job she was blessed because she made good friends.

Her favorite hobby and past time was people. Her warmth made it so easy for a stranger, a friend and family alike to talk with her comfortably. She could befriend a waiter in the restaurant or bellman at the hotel. But she was especially a good confidant, special friend and good listener to many; she will be greatly missed.

Sherri had such a positive upbeat outlook on life, she looked for the good in things and was always ready to have fun or experience new things. The Wolfe family was blessed when after receiving the diagnosis they were able to enjoy 8 months in Hawaii where Sherri made the most of each day. They returned to May as her time came closer and she was fortunate to see some friends one last time.

Sherri was happy that she lived a good life, accepted that her time had come, was ready to pass, and is at peace with our Lord and in the love of our Savior Jesus Christ. Her burdens are lifted and she is at home with her beloved son, Hunter. She is preceded in death by her mother Marvis, her father Donald Townsend, brother-in-law Rick Wolfe, fathers-in-law George Wolfe and John Willet, "grandma B" Bettie Willet and nephew Wade. She is survived by husband Ron, son Forrest, her brother Douglas Townsend of Baltimore, MD, nephew Matt Townsend, his wife Stacey and daughter Elizabeth of New York, NY and nieces Sarah Townsend and Christine Wolfe of Washington D.C.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, June 21 at 4 PM at Chapel by the Lake. In lieu of flowers please send contributions (make checks payable) to the Hunter Wolfe Memorial Account at Wells Fargo Bank, 9150 Glacier Hwy, Juneau, AK 99801.

Ron and Forrest,

I believe that Sherri lives on in those of us who loved her. She was a dear friend and co-worker whose friendship I cherished. Her positive attitude, her laughter and her openness will never be forgotten.

I'm very saddened to hear of Sherri's passing. My deepest sympathy goes to her beautiful family. I had the absolute pleasure of getting to know her when I worked at the Montessori School back in the early 90's. I know that her boys don't remember me, because we've gone out of touch, but I have tons of memories that are stored in my heart and mind. Hunter and Forrest, I'm so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a wonderful woman. May peace be with you in your time of sorrow.

Love always,

Dawn Cherri Harris (formally Veter)

I was so surprised and saddened to hear of Sherri's passing. I know she touched many lives as well as mine. Sherri and I became friends while working together in Ketchum Id. before her move to Alaska. Her upbeat attitude and infectious laughter were the best. We didn't stay in touch over the years, but I will never forget her. My condolences to her family. God bless you and may you find comfort knowing she is at peace. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I remember Sherri as a bright sunny person who was always ready to laugh. She loved her boys and was so involved in all that they did in sports. Her special spirit will be sorely missed by the Juneau community.

There's not much more I can add to her wonderful obituary - it captured her spirit and personality so well. Our older sons would play together when they were young, and we shared the typical mom concerns and joys. She was always so happy to see you, even if it had been months, and gave you her full attention. My heart goes out to her family, especially Ron and Forest. She was a wonderful person, sunny and bright. My deepest condolences.

I'm Sherri's nephew and my earliest memory of her is laughter, either her laughing or people around her. I didn't get to see her much because we lived so far apart from each other, but the time we spent together was memorable. When I was 15 or 16 I spent a couple of weeks with Sherri and her family in Juneau and it was a fantastic time. I'll always cherish that. We'll miss you.

My condolences Ron. You have had a very rough spot that none deserve. My prayers are with you and the family.

I met Sherri in Sun Valley and after we met, we would meet for coffee at least two or three times a week....one morning while having coffee out front of my office with her (we were sitting in about 8 ft of Snow in April), and Lucy we decided we had enough snow as it had been a record high that year, we made a "snap decision" to go to Mexico for a week (this was much to my reluctance)but Sherri the "Always Bold one" convinced me it would be safe...Still nervous about it, I convinced a close friend Jack W. to go along with us as we all loved him and his spirit and a great local photographer, who would take lots of pictures of us, and that he did...We left Sun Valley in my "Classic Orange VW Bus" with 5 sets of luggage and headed to Las Vegas to get out flight out...We broke down on the desert and after us girls pushing the bus and Jack behind the wheel, we finally got help ? It was Sherrie who nicknamed me "Do Da Dar" for reasons I will not comment here LLL... She was the Mother Hen of the Group and "Our World Traveler" so we followed her! Once in San Carlos it was one riot after another, and we left "Mexico in Shambles" :-) It was Sherri who opened my eyes of fear to that of more trusting, when I left Sun Valley in 1984 and moved to Mexico, it was because Sherri was a great influence behind that. When Sherri left for Alaska I tried to keep in touch, but cell phones were still not in existence and we saw little of each other but she always remained in my heart and thoughts...we sent each other a Christmas Card every year with a picture and a letter and that is how I watched her family grow, especially each of her boys Hunter and Forest and how proud her and Ron were of them throughout the years... I loved her infectious laugh and so hoped I could have made it to Alaska to see her one more time....I will be ever so grateful for her phone call from Hawaii telling me about her Cancer....I was just crushed for her, but knew that her love of God was helping her through....I am so so sorry Ron and Forest and the rest of her family and friends, I wish I could be there for her service .... Rest in Peace Dear Sweet Sherri... Someday we will meet again, for another fun filled adventure ? ? ? Do Da Dar ?
