Sharon Jones Obituary

COLUMBUS - Sharon Kay (Arterburn) Jones, passed from this life on Friday, Feb. 14, 2025, in the Emergency Department at Columbus Regional Hospital, at the age of 75.

Born on Oct. 22, 1949, in Columbus, Indiana, Sharon was the cherished daughter of the late Edward Arterburn and Lorena McMillan Goodall.

On June 8, 1991, she married Edwin P. Jones, who preceded her in death on March 24, 2020. Together, they shared a life filled with joy and companionship until his passing.

Sharon's legacy continues through her beloved son, Chad (Rebecca) Arterburn, of Auburn; and her stepdaughters, Brenda (Doug) Targgart, of Wolcotville and Angela Jones, of Monroeville. She was a proud grandmother to Ariel (Gauge Pfefferkorn) Arterburn, of Auburn, Jasmine (Travis) Fett, of Auburn, Megra (Austin) O'Connell, of Garrett and Chandler Arterburn, of Auburn; five great-grandchildren; step-granddaughters, Taylor Targgart, of Indianapolis and Desiree Jones, of Monroeville; and one step-great-granddaughter.

Sharon was the sister to a large and loving family, including Jo Ann (Robert) England, Charles E. Arterburn, Carol (Monte) Mauller, Judy (Dewey) Allman, Joyce (Gary) Bragg, Janie (Jerry) McCrory, Tammy (Mike) Imlay and Ned (Stephanie) Goodall, all of Columbus; half-brothers, Ray and Tim Arterburn, of Plainfield; and many nieces and nephews.

Sharon was preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Edward and Ruth Arterburn; her mother and stepfather, Lorena and Ned Goodall Sr.; her husband, Edwin; her half-sister, Marie; and her half-brother, Gene Arterburn.

Professionally, Sharon was a passionate and wonderful cook. Her culinary skills were the heart of the Station House Restaurant in Garrett, Indiana, which she owned and operated with pride.

Sharon was baptized at East Columbus Christian Church and attended Sovereign Christ Bible Fellowship in Columbus, where she found spiritual solace and community.

An avid Elvis fan, Sharon's love for the King of Rock 'n' Roll was well-known among her friends and family. Above all, Sharon loved her son, her grandbabies, and all of her family with an unwavering passion.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., on Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street in Columbus.

Pastor Jim Pursley will officiate.

Family and friends may gather for visitation from 11 a.m. until service time on Monday.

Sharon will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery.

In memory of Sharon, memorial contributions may be made to Sovereign Christ Bible Fellowship.
