George Rodriguez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 25, 2025.
Sarasota - George Rodriguez (November 27, 1946 - January 5, 2025), passed away peacefully on January 5, 2025, at the age of 78. Born on November 27, 1946, in Bogotá, Colombia, George's life was a testament to love, honor, and integrity.

In 1974, George immigrated to the United States, settling in Queens, New York, before making his home on Long Island. It was here that he built a life filled with love, family, and service to others. After a distinguished career and decades of dedication to his community, George retired and moved to Sarasota, Florida, where he embraced the warmth of his surroundings and the joy of a new chapter.

George was a devoted husband to his wife of 47 years, Sonia, a proud father to his sons, Danny and Paul, and a cherished grandfather to Harper, Hailey, Lincoln, and Camila. He was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his fifth grandchild, expected in February.

George built a remarkable career as a Research Technician and Fellowship Coordinator for the Pediatric Surgery teams in New York, Cincinnati and Denver, where he dedicated over 30 years to advancing medical care. Beyond his professional life, he poured his heart into serving others-volunteering with school organizations, coaching soccer teams, and participating in medical missions around the globe. His work brought critical medical advancements to rural communities and left an indelible mark on countless lives. George's love for his family was boundless; he was an exemplary father, husband, and role model.

George was known for his loving and easygoing nature. An immigrant from Colombia, he became a proud American citizen and patriot, embracing the opportunities of his adopted country while honoring his roots. He had a unique ability to make everyone he met feel special, giving them his full attention and treating them all with kindness and respect. Guided by a belief that "any extreme is bad," George lived a balanced life, full of humility and wisdom.

A celebration of George's life will be held in March, following the birth of his newest grandchild. The family will share details of the event once confirmed.

George's memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His legacy of kindness, integrity, and dedication to others is a gift to all who knew him.

George was always so kind to me from when I was a young surgery intern all the way up until he retired and moved to Florida. He made such a difference in so many lives. Missed forever.
