Richard Moyer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 15, 2025.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Paul "Dick" Moyer, 92, the adored patriarch and the heart and soul of our family. He passed away peacefully in his home on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, leaving behind an indelible mark on all of us and rejoining the late Madeline (Sokol) Moyer, the love of his life. After their wedding at Valley Forge, they shared 67 happy years before Madeline's passing. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Paul Andrew Moyer and Esther Mae (Miller) Moyer. Richard was a graduate of Whitehall High School Class of 1950, Pasadena City College, CA, and Lafayette College. He served four years in the Air Force during the Korean War. After leaving the service, he worked in Virginia for several years.

Back in Pennsylvania, Richard was employed by Air Products, Homer Research Labs, and Ingersoll Rand. After retiring, he and Madeline moved to Fellowship Community. Richard then started a second career working at Fellowship as Assistant Vice President, managing Facility Engineering projects. He somehow made everyone he met feel valued. He enjoyed the friendships he made at Fellowship with both the staff and residents.

Richard and Madeline centered their lives around their family, with picnics, celebrations, and vacations. He was always ready to help the family with their home projects with his electrical and carpentry experience. He cherished time with his daughters, taking them and their friends sleigh riding, building homecoming floats, and shared many hours swimming in the Jefferson pool and at the Jersey shore.

At St. John's Lutheran Church in Fullerton, he served on the Church Council, as well as other groups. He belonged to the Whitehall Township Historical Preservation Society, and was a life member of the Fullerton American Legion and the Fullerton Fire Company

He will be missed by his beloved daughters, Sandra Moyer Smith and her husband Brad, and Linda Moyer Edwards and husband Mike; grandchildren Benjamin Edwards and wife Megan (Fegley), Evan Smith and wife Rachel (Reed), Matthew Edwards and wife Allison (Clinton); Mallory Smith Peterson and husband Will; and four great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Moyer, brother Thomas Moyer and wife Emilie, nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.

We will celebrate Dick's life on Saturday July 5, 2025 at 2:00 pm in The Zentz Center of Fellowship Community, 3000 Fellowship Drive, Whitehall, PA 18052, where his Family will receive guests beginning at 1:00 pm. Interment was private.

For those who wish to honor Dick with a memorial contribution, his family suggests a donation to Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 835 Third Street, Whitehall, PA 18052.
