Joanne Roberts Obituary

CANFIELD - Joanne M. Roberts, 82, passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, April 1, 2025, at Hospice House, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Joanne was born December 3, 1942, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Pugel Dulick and was a lifelong area resident. A 1960 graduate of Chaney High School, she later pursued her passion for beauty and style by attending Choffin Vocational School's cosmetology program. She went on to open Joanne's Hairstyling on Youngstown's west side, which she operated for a decade before moving her beloved salon into her home to better serve her family and clients. Above all, Joanne dedicated her life to the care and love of her family. Her nurturing spirit and giving heart were evident in every role she embraced, from mother and grandmother to community volunteer and friend. A devoted member of St. Michael Church in Canfield, Joanne's faith played a central role in her life. Since 2006, she was also active in the Shrine of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted on Belle Vista Avenue, where she became a member of the Third Order Secular Franciscans in 2011. At the shrine, she was a faithful participant in the Rosary Makers Club, led the Saturday rosary for many years, and generously supported numerous fundraising efforts. Joanne was a dedicated 4-H advisor with the Canfield Rancheros for over three decades, influencing generations of young people through her guidance and mentorship. She also volunteered at the Canfield Fair's baby changing station and was known for entering her flowers in the fair-a reflection of her love for gardening, and crafting. Joanne helped set the Guinness World Record for the largest chicken dance along with an estimated 72,000 people who participated during the 1996 Canfield Fair. In her younger years, Joanne was an award-winning bowler, and throughout her life, she continued to serve others by volunteering at local soup kitchens. Her energy, creativity, and generosity touched countless lives. Mrs. Roberts leaves to forever cherish her memory her three sons, Brian J. (Nicole) Roberts of Huntingtown, MD., Thomas M. (Shannon) Roberts, of Boardman and Keith J. Roberts of Los Angeles, CA.; five grandchildren, Michaela, Clara, Emma, Braden and Zachary; eight granddogs, Rosie, Luna, Lexie, Cash, Jessie, Molly, Josey and Parker; her sister, Karen Tanner of Dublin; her brother, Thomas (Carole) Dulick of Baytown, TX as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Her husband of 58 years, Thomas J. Roberts, whom she married October 9, 1965, in St. Brendan Church, passed away May 29, 2024. A brother, Joseph Dulick also preceded Joanne in death. Family and friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2025, at Kinnick Funeral Home 477 N. Meridian Rd., Youngstown, where a funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Austintown where Joanne will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Joanne and Thomas Roberts Family Trust, 640 Squirrel Hill Drive, Boardman, OH 44512. Contributions will support 4-H and Floral Department programs at the Canfield Fair.
