Modesto, California - Karen Slovacek Moore, 85, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025 in Modesto, CA. She was born at home in Caldwell, Texas, in July 1939 to Mable and Edmund Slovacek. As a child, Karen moved often, attending 14 schools in 11 years. The family settled in Caldwell, Texas which she always called home. She graduated from the University of Texas, where she met the love of her life R. Douglas Moore. Their journey together spanned 51 wonderful years of marriage, living first in Houston, TX, then Hacienda Heights, CA, then settling in Modesto.

Karen was proud of her work as a computer lab teacher at Chrysler and Agnes Baptist Schools in Modesto. After retirement, Karen doted on her grandchildren, spent time with beloved friends and family, and volunteered at church and the Gallo Center. She loved music, traveling, reading, collecting antiques, playing cards and games, and bible study with Spirit Salon.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Doug, sister Jeannie and "brother" Jack. She is survived by her sisters Dorothy and JoBeth (Buddy), daughter Anna (Carl), son Doug (Tracy), grandchildren Nathan (Samantha), Kerstin, Austin, Addison, Audrey, best friend Marsha Davis, along with countless friends and extended family.

Karen treasured everyone around her, especially her "perfect" grandchildren. Her dedication to the church was unwavering. Karen was generous and always willing to help those around her, even as a dedicated blood donor. She never met a stranger, and made friends wherever she went, even on airplanes! Karen's legacy is one of love, friendship, generosity and kindness, with a touch of southern sass.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, August 9, 11 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church with interment to follow at a later date in Caldwell, Texas. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, 1191 Toyon, Modesto, CA.
