Alan Edward Johnson passed away in Poway, CA on May 20, 2025. Born August 19, 1952 in Portsmouth, VA to George and Deloris Johnson, he was 72 years old.
Alan earned a Bachelor's degree from San Diego State University. He worked at Fornaca bakery for 15 years prior to owning and operating his pool cleaning & maintenance company for more than 25 years.
He filled his days tending to his flourishing vegetable garden, sharing laughter with his beloved granddaughter, and playing poker with his many friends. His retirement was rich with the simple joys of nature, family, and camaraderie. In earlier years Alan dedicated over 20 years to coaching in Poway American Little League. Even after his own son no longer played, he continued coaching for the love of teaching the kids. He was still called "Coach" by many people in the community. His legacy of warmth, wisdom, and generosity lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Alan is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Joan; son Eric and his wife Sarah of San Diego, CA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jonny & Frank Donley of Las Vegas, NV and Linda & Sal Giafaglione of Poway, CA; brother David Johnson of Anaheim, CA and his only grandchild, 5 year old Maggie.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 8pm, Thursday, June 5, 2025 with a funeral service taking place the following morning, Friday, June 6th at 10am both at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary. Interment will immediately follow at Dearborn Memorial Park.
