Alan R. Jones, 71, of
Westerly, RI, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Thursday, June 12, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Ysela S. Caceres. Born in Carshalton, England, on April 19, 1954, he was the son of the late Richard and Mary Jones.
Alan was a Master Chaser, a rare and intricate art of shaping and embellishing metal that was passed down through three generations of his family. Though his father initially doubted he had the patience for the craft, Alan's persistence led to a turning point, his father agreed to teach him, and together they would spend hours in their garden workshop in England, creating beauty from silver, brass, and copper. Alan's extraordinary talent caught the attention of Tiffany & Co., who brought him to the United States, where he became one of only a handful of commercial chasers in the country. Later, through his own company, Decorative Metal, Alan continued to create masterful works for both large companies and individual clients. His creations ranged from tea sets, trays, goblets to custom brass sinks, custom motorcycles, and he worked on a variety of trophies for different companies in the U.S.A.
Among his proudest achievements were eight-inch-high solid cast gold camels crafted for Queen Elizabeth II, gifts she presented to a sheik.
Alan was a man of many passions. A lover of music, he enjoyed singing and playing the guitar and was a devoted fan of David Bowie, the Bee Gees, the Beatles, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. Later in life, he took up painting, where his artistic gifts were highlighted again. He also loved British sports cars, especially his cherished Jaguars. Above all, Alan found joy in the simple pleasures of life, spending time with wife, attending rock concerts, visiting art galleries and parks, and celebrating the milestones of his family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Alan is survived by his children, Christopher Jones and Serina Jones; his stepson, Bruce Neira; and his beloved grandchildren, Gavin and Tristen.
