Betty Harris

Betty Sue Harris, age 81, of Panama City, FL passed away peacefully on March 21, 2025. She was born to Isaac and Ruby Jane (Worthington) Dykes on March 31, 1943, in Daleville, AL. Sue attended Bay High School and worked for many years as a secretary at Panama Machinery & Supply Co. Door Plant before taking over her mother's daycare in 1985. She loved kids and was affectionately known as Mama Sue to the many kids that she helped raise over the years at her daycare. Chances are when you mention the name "Mama Sue", most folks will know that's our mom.
She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and Mama Sue to her grand and great grandchildren. She loved gospel music and having the whole family over for fish fry's or her famous tomato gravy or any other reason to just get together. She treasured the many times her grandchildren would have sleepovers at her house and rarely had a weekend go by when there wasn't at least one or two staying with her. She had a deep faith and trust in God and was always ready to share Jesus with all of those she encountered. She loved spending time with her husband before he passed and spending time with her family and would always talk about them and how proud she was of her 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Sue is predeceased by her husband, Winston F. Harris, parents, Isaac and Ruby Jane Dykes, brother, Cecil Dykes, and granddaughter, Kembra (Smith) Frich.
She is survived by her 3 children and many grand and great grandchildren;
Daughter Tina (Harris) & Leigh Thompson, with grand and great-grandchildren Lisa & Derek Eubanks, Avery Renee and Olivia Leigh; Leslie & Jason Hough, Madison Brooke and Mason Allen; and Lacey & Zach Barnes, Ella Joy, Maggie Rae and Nora Mae;
Daughter Kimberly (Harris) & Richard Smith, with grand and great-grandchildren Richard Smith Jr., Jordan & Elizabeth Smith, Abigail Joy, Olivia Grace and Liam Anthony;
Son Tony & Cindy Harris grand and great-grandchildren, Jessica Rose (Harris) & Craig Winkler, Jessy Jane Winkler; and Kaitlyn Hope Harris.
She is also survived by her sister Teresa (Dykes) Joyner.
Funeral services will be held on March 26 at 11:00am at St. Andrews Assembly of God, 2400 W 15th Street, Panama City, FL 32401. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
