Betty Jo spent her life as a loving wife, mother and friend. She was a homemaker and a devout Christian. She enjoyed daily prayer and Bible study. Betty Jo led a quiet life of service and love to all who knew her. She departed this world on May 15, 2025 at the age of 81.
She was born in Rutherford County on July 22, 1943 to the late Jack and Dolly Martin of Ellenboro. She was a 1961 graduate of Ellenboro High School. She married her high school sweetheart, the late Harold Benny Brown in 1963. The two enjoyed 59 years of marriage and are finally reunited in their heavenly home.
She never failed to appreciate the beauty of the world around her. She spent much of her time outside tending to her flower garden, searching for arrowheads, listening to the birds sing, and drawing inspiration for her paintings and other artwork. She was a collector and keeper of memories, dedicated to finding meaning even in the small things.
In addition to her husband, she is reunited with her parents and sisters, Jo Ann Gettys and Aileen Martin.
Betty Jo is survived by her son, Darryl Brown and daughter-in-law, Melissa. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Olivia Brown-Regner and husband, Matt, Ariah, and Aleah Brown, and several beloved nieces and nephews.
At her request, no services are planned. Her memory will live on in the early morning songs of the birds, the quiet beauty of the mountains she loved.
