Carla D. Brown was a beloved mother, daughter, sister, and grandmother, who left this world far too soon on April 21, 2025. Carla was born on October 16, 1977, in Charleston, SC to Roosevelt Grant and Susan Grant Hindsman. In her 47 years, she touched countless lives with her kindness, strength, and joy. Carla is survived by her mother, Susan Grant Hindsman, children, Ericka Brown, Akayla Brown, and Kalee Grant. She was blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Alani Brown and Amaya Brown-Turner. Her siblings are Lorraine Thomas (Charles), Christine Doctor (Richard), Mary Herrygers (Ronald), Jessie Brown (Sedalia), Larisha Callaham (Anthony), Roosevelt Grant Jr. and her uncle Frank Grant. Preceding her in death are her father, Roosevelt Grant, daughter Shamaria Brown, brother Louis Jenkins (Suzette) and sister Raquehia Grant. We also want to acknowledge Alma Jenkins Brown whose love and support meant so much to her.

Carla was a radiant soul, known for her beautiful smile that could light up any room and a laugh that was full of life. It echoed in the hearts of those around her. She was deeply intelligent and driven, earning her college degree from Georgia Gwinnett College and making the Dean’s List—a testament to her hard work, determination, and brilliance.

Family was Carla’s greatest joy. She was a devoted mother whose love was unconditional, a cherished daughter who brought pride and comfort to her parents, a supportive and loving sister, and a proud grandmother who found endless delight in her grandchildren Alani and Amaya. Her love for her family was constant, fierce, and full of warmth.

Carla enjoyed being at the beach. Some of her most treasured memories were made there. She experienced peace and happiness in the ocean breeze, listening to the sound of crashing waves, enjoying the simple pleasures of her sandy toes and sun-kissed afternoons. Whether she was helping the kids collect seashells, laughing as the waves rolled in, or sitting quietly and soaking in the moment, the beach was where Carla felt free and full of life. Those sunlit memories will now be a source of comfort to her loved ones. Carla’s laughter, love, and light will never fade. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends who will carry her spirit forward with the same grace, warmth, and resilience she showed every day.

Carla will be deeply missed and forever remembered by nieces, nephews and a host of cousins and close friends. Special acknowledgement to her niece Crystal Hayes and her husband Brandon for the care and support this past year.
