Charles "Charlie" E. "Rip" Van Winkle, 74, of Springfield, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, March 15, 2025 at Mercy Hospital, Springfield, Missouri.
Charlie was born on June 22, 1950 in Clinton, Missouri, the son of Forrest and Mildred Van Winkle. Charlie grew up in Leeton, Missouri and graduated from Leeton High School.
After high school, Charlie went to work for the Missouri Department of Transportation Construction Department in Warrensburg, Missouri. Charlie became "Rip" Van Winkle to his co-workers. "Rip" later transferred to various other state offices in Harrisonville, Kansas City, and Branson.
Charlie married Sandra "Sandy" Sexson on March 6, 1972. They had two daughters, Tammy Sue and Kimberly Dawn.
Charlie will be missed by many friends at Grumpy's Bar. Through the years he loved to play pool and shuffleboard. In his younger years Charlie loved to deer hunt with his brother, Bill. He also enjoyed camping and fishing at Truman Lake with family and friends. Many enjoyed Charles' hobby of cooking and baking!
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Jim, Bill, and David; his daughter, Tammy and his nephew Michael.
He is survived by his wife, Sandy; daughter Kim Van Winkle; grandson Dontay; granddaughter Shayla; great-grandsons Zey, Khi, and Kolton; brother Dennis; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
Per his wishes, he will be cremated with no formal ceremonies at this time.
