Christine Joanne "Chris" Anderson

Christine "Chris" Joanne Anderson, 80, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of West Branch passed away at Corridor Crossing on June 20, 2025.
Chris was born on November 30, 1944 in Sioux City, Iowa, to Kenneth Stolpe and Phyllis Nelle. She grew up in Le Mars, Iowa, graduating from Le Mars High School. Chris married Carl Anderson in 1964 and had four children before later divorcing. She would later graduate from Marycrest College in Davenport, where she earned her bachelor's degree in education.
Chris eventually moved to the Iowa City area where she has lived for the last 41 years. She was a woman of many talents and worked various jobs with the majority of her career spent in Restaurant Management before later retiring.
She spent many years volunteering for the Foster Grandparent Program in Iowa City and was a longtime member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Chris enjoyed playing bingo and watching the news. She moved to Corridor Crossing in 2024 and enjoyed her time there especially because she never missed out on getting her nails and hair weekly done for the past year.
More than anything else, family was everything to her especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she was most proud of.
She is survived by four children Clark Anderson, Derrick (Kimberly) Anderson, Jennifer (Bret) Dorton, and Kathryn (Jim) Hoogestraat, two siblings James (Trudy) Stolpe and Jacqueline Smith, eight grandchildren Michael, Nathanial, Kaitlyn, Austin, Hannah, Chaela, Noah and Jade, three great-grandchildren Taryn, Paige and Harper, and many nieces and nephews.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth Stolpe and Phyllis Welander, stepfather Floyd Welander, brother-in-law Richard Smith, and former spouse Carl Anderson.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service with a gathering for friends and family prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Burial will be held at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to her family to be distributed to organizations that were important to Chris.
