On March 19, 2025, God in His infinite wisdom, dispatched his angel to call from labor to reward our beloved Christine "Elizabeth" Johnson.
Elizabeth was born in Gretna, Virgina on June 21, 1925. She was the first daughter of the late Elva Barnes. Elizabeth grew up in Virginia where she attended school. Elizabeth met and married Albert Patrick and from this union two sons were born, Albert (Boopnin) and Vincent (Snappy) Patrick. After her relocation to New Jersey Elizabeth held various jobs of service.
Elizabeth later met and married Issiac Johnson and from this union two sons were born, Gregory and Terrance Johnson.
Elizabeth joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church under the Reverend J. H. Thomas on her Christian Experience. Ebenezer became her family church home. Elizabeth served in many capacities at the church, under Rev John P. Harris, Rev. G. Gregg Murray and Rev. William H. Rutherford III. Some of the ministries she served in were. The Voices of Ebenezer, The Gospel Chorus, Senior Choir, Missionary Circle, Nurses Unit, Sunday School, Bible Study, Deaconess Ministry and she later became known as the mother of the Church.
It's safe to say that if the church doors were open, you could find her there until her health began to fail her. Elizabeth loved her Church family, and her church family loved and cared for her.
Many kind and beautiful things can be said about Elizabeth. Her garment was sweet to all those who knew and loved her. Her absence will leave an empty space in all our hearts.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Sr. & Elva Barnes, two sons Albert Patrick & Gregory Johnson, four siblings – Celester Sr., Thomas Jr., Edith & LaVerne.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her two sons Vincent Patrick & Terrance Johnson. Two sisters Lillian Hopson & Yvonne Barnes. Ten grandchildren, Deirdre (Dee Dee) Patrick Humphrey, Lynn Robinson, Tanon Patrick, Tiffany Patrick, Kristina Patrick, Dwyane (Tmeaka) Patrick, Nichele (Shelly) Patrick, Bryan (Tiffany) Patrick, Jessica Johnson, Gene Johnson, 21 great grandchildren, 17 great-great grandchildren, 1 great-great-great grandchild. and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. An honorable mention to Darlene Roberts and the late Barbara Philips who extended special care and love.
